EA Patents Complex New Battle Pass System

A new EA patent suggests that a complex new battle pass system with premium rewards may be coming to the publisher's live service titles soon.

Concord does not feature a Battle Pass, as confirmed by the official Twitter account for the game. The reveal is part of a series of frequently asked questions by fans, delivered alongside the news of extensive post-launch content in the form of more maps, game modes, and Freegunners at no extra cost to players. Firewalk Studios also promises more in-game cinematics to offer an insight into the lore of Concord and the introduction of a training room, where players can test out the kit of each Freegunner in peace. Battle Passes have long been a divisive subject among gamers, so the knowledge that Concord will not include any is being met with a very positive reception.

Concord Will Not Feature a Battle Pass

Being a live-service game, the players will be the lifeblood of Concord. If the game maintains a poor player count, it runs the risk of dying before even getting a chance to grow. It's a common tale where a live-service game shuts down due to a dwindling player base, and if the Steam numbers are anything to go by, Concord could be at risk of suffering this fate. The ability for gamers to play the game at their own pace to earn rewards in place of a Battle Pass system does set Concord apart from other free-to-play live service games, but only time will tell whether it will be enough.

Despite the poor numbers, the open beta for Concord proved to be an enjoyable experience for those who did play it, and the positive feedback the game received during this period may be enough to bring more players in come the game's launch. With a myriad of game modes and maps, as well as a growing roster whom players can learn more about in-game, Concord has plenty on offer for gamers without the need for a Battle Pass.
