A new Pirates of the Caribbean movie has been confirmed and will star Margot Robbie. Robbie has experience heading up action movies and franchises, having enjoyed a star turn as Harley Quinn in the Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad movies as part of the DCEU.

A report by The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Robbie is set to be the lead character in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie as part of an effort to revitalize the series. The movie will not be a spin-off of the original movies which starred Johnny Depp as the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow nor is it connected to the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot that was announced back in October 2019.

Plot details of the movie are being kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed that Christina Hodson will be working on the project. Moviegoers may not recognize Hodson's name, but they will likely recognize her work, as she wrote for the Birds of Prey movie, Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, and The Flash movie which is part of the DCEU. This should give fans of the Depp-staring Pirates of the Caribbean movie some confidence.

It's unclear when the Pirates of the Caribbean movie will be on-screens as the project is in "early development," says the report. Like many other movies that have seen production affected by COVID-19, it may not be able to start shooting for a while. Caribbean countries such as The Bahamas, where the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been partly filmed, have not fully reopened to visitors and tourists.
