Project L might have just been leaked for the PlayStation 5, via PlayStation's official social media. Project L is a League of Legends spin-off currently in the works.

Developed by Riot Games, League of Legends is an online, team-based multiplayer game, first releasing in 2009 and remaining relevant today via countless purchasable content updates and an active, multinational tournament scene. As of 2023, the game boasts a staggering roster of 165 playable champions, is the largest esport in the world, and has been hailed as one of the greatest video games ever made. It also helps that League of Legends has been kept alive through various genre-diverse spin-offs and multimedia tie-ins, allowing players of different stripes to get a feel for the lore and possibly try the main game out. The latest of such spin-offs goes by the name Project L, and is set to be a 2v2 arena fighting game. It is currently in development with no explicitly projected release date.

Despite the lack of details aside from some gameplay footage, a new detail regarding Project L's release was accidentally leaked by the official PlayStation Europe Twitter account. The since-deleted post was meant to promote some new gameplay features in the recently released Street Fighter 6, but instead, the embedded video showcases footage for Project L. The exact footage of the video is unavailable, save for a screenshot someone managed to capture near the beginning of it, but it is likely that this slip-up could hint at a PlayStation 5 release for this upcoming title.

This reveal might come off to some as unusual, seeing how the main League of Legends title is only available on PC and Mac. However, there is precedent for such a practice even with this very IP, as the RPG spin-off Ruined King: A League of Legends Story was released across all current platforms. In addition to the tweet possibly being a Freudian slip regarding Project L's platform list, it could also be true that there are plans to further showcase the game soon, with this video just being an early leak of it.

Of course, all of the above should be treated with caution and nothing should be assumed until word from Riot Games gets out. Whenever that does happen, it should be a treat, seeing how much potential Project L has in terms of what it can do for its genre, and the overall popularity of the League of Legends brand as a whole.

Project L is in development.
