A trademark filed by Nintendo could reveal plans for the next Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games to be added to the Nintendo Switch Online game library. The addition of classic Game Boy games to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription has been warmly received. However, Nintendo's only gone so far as to add a handful of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games. There's a demand for even more Game Boy games in the future, and Nintendo may be following through on that before long.
Before the addition of the currently available Game Boy games on Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo refreshed the trademarks for a number of games. That list includes Kirby's Tilt 'N Tumble, as well as upcoming Nintendo Switch Online releases The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, and Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. It has proven to be an accurate, if not reliable, way of seeing what games Nintendo plans to release next.
Now two additional trademarks have been filed for Game Boy game titles, each yet to have been announced as future Nintendo Switch Online offerings. The filings were both issued in mid-February, but have only been published since. The two games are Solar Striker, a Nintendo Gradius-like vertical scrolling shooter that was originally released in 1990, and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, a tactical RPG.
Neither of these games have been officially announced as planned for Nintendo Switch Online, but if their trademarks are to be believed they could arrive down the line. They're notably both highly requested additions to Nintendo Switch Online among fans, making them likely future additions even before the trademarks were confirmed. Nothing's confirmed until Nintendo makes an official announcement, however.
As far as when Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers could look forward to Solar Striker and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones being added to the library, that's a difficult question to answer. Since Nintendo announced Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles for Nintendo Switch Online in February, it has only done one additional round of releases. When another round could may arrive isn't clear.
Even without a clear release window for new Nintendo Switch Online releases, and no confirmation Solar Striker and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones will be a part of that next wave, this is still great news. It's indicative that Nintendo is planning more Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games for Nintendo Switch Online in the future. And the games it does add will be titles that Nintendo Switch Online subscribers most want to see.
