The world is patiently waiting for HBO’s Harry Potter TV reboot to premiere. (Maybe not so patiently for some, including me). Whether you can’t wait to get back to the Wizarding World no matter what, or you’re just interested in seeing if a new series can possibly match the books and films, you don’t need to wait much longer. The Harry Potter TV show will release early 2027, and more and more news about the series’ direction is being revealed. Drip fed. Teased. We’re going to get small snippet after small snippet until the first episode goes live.

Harry Potter fans know what’s happening, and they’re eagerly lapping it up. One such snippet came from the actor behind the new Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter’s school rival. It’ll be interesting to see how 14-year-old Lox Pratt will step into the very large shoes left behind by Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco in the Warner Bros. Movies. Fortunately, HBO's Draco Malfoy has confirmed the new Harry Potter series will avoid the movies' missteps with the Malfoy family.

Harry Potter HBO Remake's Release Window Is Officially Confirmed

It's only a matter of time before Harry Potter fans return to the Wizarding World, in an adaption set to right the movies' wrongs.

HBO's Harry Potter TV Show Will Focus on Characters Other Than Harry

Felton is still unabashedly proud of his time spent playing the snarky Slytherin, all these years later. The Harry Potter fandom loves seeing Felton share his house pride on social media. Felton even stepped back into the world of Harry Potter, this time as an adult Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Though his time with the production is limited (the show only runs until May 2026), it’s clear that Felton’s passion for the franchise is still going strong.

In a recent interview with 1883, Pratt talked about his role as Draco Malfoy as well as his role in BBC’s Lord of the Flies (2026) miniseries, which just released on BBC iPlayer on Feb. 8. The key thing everyone is so excited about from this interview is what Pratt revealed about the Harry Potter TV show: it’s going to differ from the books and movies. The Harry Potter books are very much Harry-oriented. Understandable, of course, as Harry is the eponymous character and at the center of it all. Some chapters deviate from this for certain scenes, like the very first chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

With strict runtime constraints, the Harry Potter movies follow this path even more so. Many details and side characters are absent from the Harry Potter films, something that fans are hoping to see rectified in HBO’s Harry Potter TV show. However, Pratt told 1883 that the reboot is going to go a step further and actually show Draco in his home. Malfoy Manor is only shown a couple of times in the films, all horribly dark scenes, so it’ll be new territory to see Draco’s home life when he’s young.

10 Best-Written Harry Potter Characters The Movies Let Down

The Harry Potter movies cut out a lot of the series' best scenes, leaving some seriously well-written book characters underdeveloped.

The Harry Potter movies showcased the essence of Draco’s home life in a few scenes, particularly in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where Draco’s father, Lucius Malfoy, enters the fray. From there, fans were able to extrapolate what things might be like for Draco at home. Now, we have proof that we don’t need to imagine it any longer. We’ll get to see the real deal.

"I think with this adaptation, you get to see so much more than the books. [The books] are very much over Harry’s shoulder, which is great, and that’s how they played the film as well...there’s just so much more that you get to see. You get to see all the teachers in their little rooms. You get to see Draco at home. I won’t spoil too much about that, but there are some brilliant scenes at home where you start to get an insight into how he is.

Similar to Flies, I was grateful that we had the same freedom to explore these characters. Because in the films, Draco is sort of 2D; he is the sneery villain. I feel like there’s so much more – you need to understand why. And you see little glints of it in the film with Lucius and stuff. I think [the series] is really brilliant. I can’t wait to bring it to the screen."
