Ruckus Games, a new studio led by veterans from Bethesda, Epic Games, Gearbox, and more, has shared fresh information about its forthcoming debut game. The developer's untitled project will feature "suburban invasion" and co-op gameplay elements.
Founded in 2021, Ruckus Games is a Texas-based developer headed by CEO Paul Sage, who previously worked on Borderlands 3 as its creative director. Its founding team consists of industry veterans who have honed their skills at distinguished studios, such as Blizzard, Riot Games, and Monolith. Three years after being established, the indie studio has now revealed new details about its first-ever game, giving onlookers something to be excited about.
Ruckus Games is currently working on an untitled co-op multiplayer game, which brings session-based "suburban invasion" gameplay to the table. The forthcoming indie title assimilates RPG elements, crafting, town-building, among other things. Its plot revolves around ordinary people being forced to become heroes to save their town, which is under attack amid a strange series of events. It is set in a "reminiscent era" in the American heartland, which will evolve over time with regular content updates. Moreover, the forthcoming game will come with up to four-player co-op support and offer a wide selection of playable characters to choose from.
Ruckus Games's Debut Title will Let Players "Smash, Grab, and Grow"
Putting a heavy focus on using makeshift weapons in the game, the players will be encouraged to smash objects, grab new weapons and resources, and rescue NPCs to help grow the population of the living centralized hub called Hometown. Players can find various kinds of unusual weapons, ranging from "a toaster kitted to shoot saw blades" to "a modded power washer turned flamethrower." Back at Hometown, they can build, customize, and upgrade their weapons and abilities before heading out again. Ruckus Games's debut title also sports a distinct visual style that "balances fun and humor with darkness and peril," courtesy of art director Scott Kester, known for his work on Borderlands's iconic graphic novel art style. Talking about the studio's goal, Sage, who is also the game director on the project, said that the developer wants games that allow players to "have fun from the get-go" and games that are "physical, joyous, and just a damn good time to be shared with others."
Ruckus Games is currently taking submissions for the playtests of its forthcoming game, which are expected to kick off in early 2025. According to the studio's website, these tests will take place throughout the game's development, allowing devs to improve the game based on feedback early on. So, those who are interested in the ex-Borderlands lead's next game can expect to see more in the coming months.
