Turki Alalshikh, owner of The Ring magazine and chairman of the General Entertainment Authority for Saudi Arabia, has revealed that a new boxing video game is now in development with Street Fighter creator Takashi Nishiyama at the helm. Nishiyama is the president of video game developer Dimps, best known for working on a variety of Sonic, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter games.
With EA's Fight Night series lying dormant for many years, boxing fans have been calling out for a studio to fill the gap in the market. While developer Steel City Interactive answered fans' calls with the launch of Undisputed last year, many players were left disappointed due to a large number of gameplay issues, bugs, and the overall lack of boxers in the game. Undisputed continues to receive new updates with further gameplay improvements and bug fixes, but its underwhelming release has left many boxing fans with a sour taste in their mouths.

A New Boxing Game Is in Development
Thankfully, Turki Alalshikh, who has become a prominent figure in the sporting world ever since vowing to "fix broken boxing" in 2024, has now revealed a new boxing game with legendary video game developer Takashi Nishiyama and his studio, Dimps. In a new post on Twitter, Alalshikh said the game will be presented by The Ring and will feature original characters. Nishiyama is best known for creating the iconic Street Fighter series while working at Capcom in the late 80s. The developer then went on to create his own studio in 2000, developing various Sonic, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter games, among many others.
With the ink on the contract only just drying, development on the new boxing game has yet to commence, but Alalshikh says work on the title will "begin soon," with more details to be unveiled at a later date. While it's great news for fans eager for more mainstream boxing video games, the untitled game is likely still many years away as development has yet to begin.
The news comes after an insider shared a promising update surrounding EA's Fight Night series last year. According to Insider Gaming's Mike Straw, EA is currently in the process of reviving the series, which has been left dormant since 2011. Rumors suggest that development on a new Fight Night game has been paused and restarted multiple times, with EA supposedly concerned about potential sales.
While the Fight Night series hasn't had a new entry since 2011, EA has still been developing new fighting games alongside the UFC. EA entered a partnership with the UFC over ten years ago when it launched the first entry in its mixed martial arts fighting game series, EA Sports UFC. The studio has gone on to develop a total of five entries in the series, with rumors suggesting that EA Sports UFC 6 is now in development.
