An industry insider has revealed new details on the next Battlefield game, revealing vital information on the shooter's maps, weapons, and the year in which the game is expected to take place. Battlefield publisher EA finally gave a glimpse at the series' next entry on September 16 with a singular piece of concept art, stating that the title would take place in a modern setting.

In a new interview with IGN, Respawn Entertainment founder and Vice President of EA Vince Zampella confirmed that the next Battlefield game will feature a modern setting, similar to that of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. Zampella also revealed that the shooter, which currently doesn't have a confirmed title, will go back to basics with 64 players per map. After Battlefield 2042 attempted to beef things up with 128-player maps, the studio went on to revert the massive number of players after fan backlash. Zampella now says he'd rather have "dense, really nice, well-designed play spaces."

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Get Big EA Franchise That Skipped Its Predecessor

An EA official suggests that one of the company's big franchises that was never before available on Nintendo consoles could be coming to the Switch 2.

While Zampella did give a peak into the future of the Battlefield series, industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed exclusive details on the next entry via InsiderGaming. According to Henderson, sources close to the project have revealed that the first-person shooter will take place somewhere between 2027 and 2030, which aligns with Zampella's confirmation that the next Battlefield will take place in a more modern setting. It's also claimed that there will be 45 different weapons available at launch, which is double that of its predecessor, Battlefield 2042. As for maps, EA is supposedly aiming for around 10 multiplayer maps at launch.

Insider Reveals New Details on Next Battlefield Game

Alongside details of weapons and maps, the report also shares some details on the setting of the next Battlefield game. While fans were quick to narrow down the location from the above concept art, InsiderGaming says the game will likely take place across various locations, such as Gibraltar and the USA. Henderson's report goes on to explain that there will be some form of Battle Royale experience with a tropical setting somewhere in the US.

The Battlefield franchise is well-known for its destructible environments, but it has now been claimed that DICE is significantly overhauling the game's destruction, with over half a dozen of Henderson's sources stating that the next Battlefield game would have "caliber-based destruction" similar to that of Rainbow Six Siege. This means that the level of destruction caused to the environment will be dependent on the caliber of ammunition being used by the player.

As for the name of the next game, DICE is apparently still trying to decide on the best fit. Large surveys have reportedly been sent to fans with the Battlefield community supposedly being able to vote between Battlefield 6 and just Battlefield for the name of the next entry.
