Netflix subscribers needing something a little more unconventional to stream this Christmas should consider watching Better Watch Out. If you are a fan of horror comedy movies, I can't recommend Better Watch Out enough, and you need to go stream it on Netflix ASAP. If you need a little more context, read on, but I gotta stress that this is the kind of movie that's best enjoyed with as little information as possible.

If you are someone that grew up liking Home Alone, you may have an even greater appreciation for Better Watch Out, as it has similar vibes, but with a far more sinister twist. Home Alone is undoubtedly one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time, and so if you were hoping to see something that sort of flips the concept on its head, Better Watch Out may just be up your alley.

But you don't have to take my word for it. Better Watch Out earned positive reviews from critics at the time of its release and has earned an impressive 89% rating on review aggregate site RottenTomatoes. It's a horror comedy that favors the horror side of that equation more than anything else, but it is a highly entertaining movie that is perfect to watch at Christmastime. It's certainly one of the best Christmas horror movies out there, and my personal favorite. If you are just curious about what Better Watch Out is and don't feel like watching it yourself, feel free to read on for a more detailed explanation.

If you don't have Netflix, Better Watch Out is also streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, YouTube, and various ad-supported streamers.

WARNING: Better Watch Out SPOILERS follow for the rest of the article What makes Better Watch Out so much fun to watch blind is that it makes you think it's one kind of movie, only to take a sharp left-turn and deliver something completely unexpected. At first, Better Watch Out appears to be an R-rated take on Home Alone, with main character Luke and his babysitter Ashley fighting back against a home invader. But the apparent home invader in Better Watch Out is a lot deadlier than Home Alone's bumbling thieves, and appears to be actively out to kill Luke and Ashley.

The twist comes early on. It's revealed that the Home Alone-esque home invasion is a set-up by Luke in an attempt to stage a rescue, save his babysitter's life, and then seduce her. Ashley realizes this, and so Luke knocks her out, ties her up, and then begins to terrorize her and her boyfriend for the rest of the movie. Luke gets creative with his depravity in a manner that echoes Kevin McAllister's Home Alone traps, but it's all much more gruesome. There's even a swinging paint can and a loose tarantula, if the Home Alone vibes weren't blatant enough already.

As far as Christmas horror movies go, Better Watch Out is certainly one of the higher quality ones. If you're looking for more, I also recommend Terrifier 3 and A Christmas Horror Story as well.
