As players embark on their journey to the NBA in NBA 2K26's MyCareer mode, they'll need to make some decisions that may impact on the trajectory of their career. While 2K has opted to skip the college experience in this edition of the popular basketball simulator, there is still a lot of ground to cover before the bright lights of the biggest basketball league in the world.

The first decision players will need to make comes as soon as they have showcased their skills against some tough talent post-high school. For players wanting to weigh up their options, this guide will help you to consider whether to choose the HighFlyas or Union Elite in NBA 2K26's MyCareer mode.

Should You Choose HighFlyas or Union Elite in MyCareer Mode?

The first major decision players will need to make in MyCareer mode is which team they align themselves with straight out of high school. The options are a clash of styles, with Union Elite sporting a more traditional style of coaching, and HighFlyas taking a more modern approach. In essence, the outcome of the story does not differ according to who you choose, but there is probably one relatively important consideration to make just to ensure you're getting the best performances out of your player.

Choose Your Team According To Your Position

The coaching style is vastly different between the HighFlyas and Union Elite, but this is not something you really notice, aside from a couple of short cutscenes. The most significant difference between the two teams is the position their star player is in, with HighFlyas having a star guard, and Union Elite building their team around a big man. While you could certainly make it work without any real problems, you'll likely have better team chemistry and cohesion if you pair a forward with a guard.

With this in mind, we recommend choosing HighFlyas if your player is a Forward or Center, and Union Elite if your player is a guard. That way, you can have a Brunson/KAT, Kobe/Shaq-type pairing within your team, which will make dominating the opposition and moving up the ranks in the top 250 far, far easier.

With that said, you'll still be able to play as a guard for the HighFlyas or a F/C for Union Elite, but you may find yourself competing with your teammates a bit more for stats and accolades. Regardless of who you pick, the events and outcomes of the story will remain exactly the same.
