Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo have the highest overall ratings with 97 entering the season. However, the topic often goes back to LeBron James as someone most fans still consider the face of the league, especially after leading Team USA to a gold medal in the Olympics.

James’ NBA 2K25 rating was revealed to be 95 overall as a top player in the game. The Los Angeles Lakers star doesn’t show many signs of slowing down after another stellar All-NBA season. The long career of LeBron James sees his history going back to NBA 2K4 when it was under a different name and partnership as ESPN NBA Basketball. James entered the NBA as the most highly touted prospect in basketball history after an incredible high school career and received a lower 78 rating to start his career. Games typically give conservatively low ratings to rookies, but it was even stricter in the 2000s.

The following year saw LeBron receiving a big increase to 88, but it represented a major moment of the last year when James did not hit the 90 rating. NBA 2K6 was the first year of LeBron hitting the 90+ rating club with an incredible 97 overall rating. The entire basketball world embraced that James was one of the best in the world by his third year and has held that spot for many years.

LeBron achieved ratings of 96+ overall for the next ten years in a row to continue dominating NBA 2K. The only time James ever slipped below 95 was a 94 rating in NBA 2K16, but he was the highest rated player that year when the ratings were stricter. Every year since has seen James having a 95+ overall rating, continuing with NBA 2K25.

This year’s rating continues the streak of LeBron having a 90+ overall rating for twenty consecutive years. No other NBA player has hit this mark, and it feels unlikely anyone else will have two decades of being arguably the best player in the entire league. The one 94 rating held James back from having a 95+ rating for all those twenty years. Video game fans have benefited from LeBron’s greatness for decades now.

Will LeBron James Ever Have An NBA 2K Rating Below 90?

The future is impossible to predict, but LeBron James probably only has a few years left in the league. NBA fans speculate about how long he can last, especially since he doesn’t decline nearly as much as expected for his age, but he has talked about knowing the end is near. James will likely play at least another two seasons, with four at the most.

The question shifts towards whether LeBron will ever decline enough to fall below a 90 overall for the first time since his second season in the league. Multiple variables of the current time help keep James from reaching the aging process faster like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal or Kevin Garnett did. LeBron spends over $1.5 million on fitness, dietary items, and other aspects of his lifestyle to keep his body in peak condition, along with today's technological advancements.

Injuries have hit James more in recent years than in his prime, but that doesn’t take away from his excellence and playing enough games to qualify for awards. LeBron would have to take a smaller role or see his numbers regress a notable amount to see his rating ever dropping below 90. Even if he regresses a little more, there will be respect offered by NBA 2K for a historically great player ending his career.

NBA 2K25 marks another strong year of James being among the top players that will see him utilized in every possible game mode. No player has helped the franchise make as much money as LeBron when looking at his longevity compared to every other top star. James extended his 90+ rating streak for a basketball video game feat that no one before him has done. The iconic legacy of LeBron showcased greatness from the real court to the video game side.
