The NBA 2K series has been using its shot meter for years now, and NBA 2K25 is no different in using this system to help players pull off the perfect shot to take over a match. This mechanic is designed to help players use pinpoint timing in order to know when the character should release the ball. This will appear once the player uses either Square/X or the right stick, which will then prompt a meter that begins to fill up. However, some players haven't been pleased with some of the changes that were made to this new entry.
Thankfully, the game has given players plenty of options to choose from to change the shot meter to be more in line with what they prefer, so that people aren't stuck with the new changes to this year's game. However, the game does not detail or walk through how a person can change the shot meter. Fortunately, it didn't take long for people to discover it. This guide is here to help spread the word for everyone who can use it.

How To Change Shot Meter
Players can change the shot meter while in the game's menus and even while in the middle of a match. This guide will lay out exactly how both of these options can be done.
How To Change From Menus
- Head to the Features section of the game's main menu.
- Select the Customize HUD option at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose the Shot Meter Shot option on this new screen.
- Here, you can choose the size, visibility, location, and the style of the shot meter.
Players can use this to completely customize and choose what they want their shot meter to look like and function in the middle of a game.
How To Change During A Game
Speaking of being in the middle of a game, players can also customize the shot meter while they are actually playing so that they can experiment with their features right away. Here is how it is done:
- Press the pause button to open the menu.
- Go to the Options section and head to Customize HUD.
- Just like with the previous method, select Shot Meter Shot.
- This will take you to the same screen where you can choose how to customize your shot meter to your liking.
