Throughout Naruto, Konoha changed Hokage several times, with each leader contributing greatly to the development, peace, and protection of the Leaf village. Among them, Hashirama Senju, aka the God of Shinobi, is widely respected not just for his godlike powers but also for his lifelong dream of a peaceful world without hatred or war.
Naruto: 6 Most Pointless Sacrifices In The Series, Ranked
These characters ended up making sacrifices that ended up being completely pointless in Naruto.
While Hashirama’s dream was only fully realized long after his death in Naruto, his global influence made it difficult for all the shinobi to forget him. As such, his name became synonymous with the standard against which every Hokage, including Naruto Uzumaki, would forever be compared.
Hashirama Brought Peace to the Warring States
Before the creation of hidden villages, the shinobi world in Hashirama’s time was in utter chaos. Everyone was fighting for the sake of their clan, be they children, teenagers, or adults, without exception, resulting in unnecessary mass deaths that intensify the never-ending cycle of hatred.
Seeing this, Hashirama couldn’t help but imagine a world where children aren’t required to fight anymore. He never stopped believing in this lifelong dream, so much so that he brought peace to the warring states by prioritizing unity over hatred and cooperation over war.
Instead of wiping out rival clans, especially the Uchiha, Hashirama chose to offer treaties and peaceful coexistence. Without Hashirama leading and inspiring the change, rival clans would still be fighting, and generations of children would continue to suffer on the battlefield.
There’s No Konoha Without Hashirama
Without Hashirama, the Leaf Village, along with the other hidden villages in the shinobi world, would have been nonexistent. The rest of the Hokage after him would have also been erased from history. The credits go to Hashirama, who brought Konoha to life, though Madara Uchiha also played a crucial supporting role.
As the first Hokage, Hashirama gave the children of the Leaf a chance to know what learning and playing were about. In addition, he kept the Uchiha Clan in check, preventing old feuds from tearing the village apart. Even after Madara betrayed him again, Hashirama never wavered in protecting the hard-fought peace that the village enjoyed during his time.
Plus, powerful rival clans even submitted to Hashirama, choosing to be united under a single village, embracing his leadership and the idea that Konoha is home to all shinobi without hesitation.
The Tailed Beasts Bowed to Hashirama
Hashirama is one of the few characters in Naruto who can completely dominate the Tailed Beasts by himself. He doesn’t need help from support ninja to capture these powerful Tailed Beasts, as his mastery of Wood Release and unparalleled chakra reserves are enough to subdue even the strongest of them with ease.
Knowing this, it’s not a surprise that all the other Kage during his time looked up to Hashirama and his overwhelming power. Capturing eight out of nine Tailed Beasts at that time was nearly unimaginable, yet Hashirama made it look effortless.
Surprisingly, Hashirama also has no problem giving these Tailed Beasts away for free for the sake of power balance. He knows exactly how to deal with these Tailed Beasts if they run amok, so distributing them didn’t bother him at all.

Defeating Madara Again and Again
Before Naruto and Sasuke, there were Hashirama and Madara. They had the fiercest rivalry, with Madara on the losing side and Hashirama on the winning side. Since they were children, Hashirama and Madara have engaged in various contests where Hashirama’s skill, intelligence, and strategy allowed him to outmatch Madara over and over again.
Fast-forward to the future, Hashirama never lost a single fight with Madara while he was still alive. Every attempt of Madara to claim supremacy failed, even after he possessed the Nine Tails and the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. All his efforts did not amount to anything, which speaks volumes about Hashirama’s godlike abilities.
Hashirama wouldn’t earn the moniker "God of Shinobi" if he didn’t have the power to back up his legendary reputation. He was so powerful that the true cause of his death remains a mystery. If he had been killed on the battlefield, his killer would have been immortalized in shinobi history, yet no records of such a feat exist.
He Passed on the Will of Fire
Naruto Uzumaki and the rest of the shinobi in Konoha align with the Will of Fire, especially during the Fourth Great Ninja War, which Hashirama Senju championed. The same will was also passed on to the next generation of shinobi in the Boruto series, guiding Boruto and his friends to carry on Hashirama’s vision of peace and cooperation instead of war and hatred.
The Will of Fire is crucial to the shinobi of the Leaf village, as without it, Konoha could crumble under internal conflict and external threats. In simple terms, the Will of Fire inspired the next generation of shinobi to treat everyone in the village as if they were their own family.
It’s the same philosophy that fuels a Hokage’s commitment to protect the village and put its best interests above their own. It’s one of the best ways for the shinobi of Konoha to also remember Hashirama’s absolute loyalty to the village.
Hashirama Remained a Humble God of Shinobi
It’s difficult to resist a humble and grounded Hokage like Hashirama, who, despite his overwhelming power, remained humble and relatable. At first glance, he looks like a cold, strict ninja with no warmth, but beneath the stern exterior, he is kind-hearted and devoted to protecting everyone in Konoha.
It’s funny how someone like him also loves gambling, revealing an unexpected side to his personality. It’s also easy for him to get depressed, making it fun to see him switch moods from feeling confident to feeling anxious in the series.
Who would have thought that someone of Hashirama’s caliber had a quirky side to him? He literally has the power to change the course of the world in his prime, yet he never lets it go to his head or consume him. Instead, he puts his power to good use, though the next generation of corrupt ninjas abused his DNA just to get a taste of his overwhelming power.
Hashirama Didn’t Seek the Hokage Position
Unlike Naruto Uzumaki, whose lifelong dream was to become Hokage, Hashirama didn’t want the post originally. Instead, he wanted to give the position to Madara in the belief that he was more fitting to lead the village.
Hashirama genuinely thought that Madara’s leadership would benefit Konoha the most. He was even willing to carve Madara’s face on the Hokage Rock as soon as possible to immortalize his friend’s legacy.
However, as fans know, Hashirama ultimately assumed the role of Hokage after he was voted for by the people. It was supposed to be his way of offering trust and respect to Madara, hoping it would strengthen the bond between the Uchiha and the Senju clan.
