Naruto is home to some of the strongest characters in the anime world. Kishimoto painstakingly created these characters as he wanted them to stand out from the rest. Obviously, creating such mighty individuals wasn't an easy task, which is why Kishimoto had to work doubly hard to give them unique abilities.

The Sharingan is a Dojutsu that is unique to the Uchiha, and for centuries, it has been coveted by people of other clans because of the special skills associated with it. Izanagi and Izanami stand out among the many powerful techniques of the Sharingan.

Unlike the other potent abilities that require a person to awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan, Izanagi can be utilized by any person wielding the Sharingan, which is exactly why it is so dangerous. Izanagi is actually a Genjutsu, but it works slightly differently. Regular Genjutsu affects the target's senses, making them see and believe things that aren't real. Meanwhile, Izanagi applies illusion to reality. Any individual who uses the Izanagi can manipulate reality into whatever they want.
Most people who used Izanagi did so to protect themselves from certain death. Madara used it to avoid being killed by Hashirama. Danzo was another who made use of Izanagi to save himself from Sasuke Uchiha. Based on the demonstrations, it's quite obvious that Izanagi is an amazing ability. However, it comes with a major drawback. Anyone who uses the technique loses their eye forever, which is why it is used only in dire circumstances.
Izanami Is A Powerful Technique That Traps People Forever
Izanami, like Izanagi, is an extremely powerful technique that has been passed down among the Uchiha Clan for generations. It can be considered the antithesis of Izanagi. In fact, Itachi mentioned how Izanami was created to stop the misuse of Izanagi by several members of the Uchiha Clan. Unsurprisingly, Izanami also caused its user to go blind in the eye with which they cast it. Coming to the mechanics of the technique, it has been stated that Izanami puts the target in a loop.
The afflicted person stays still, trying their best to escape from the mental prison, only to fail repeatedly. The only known way to free oneself from Izanami is to accept the consequences of their action. Considering how the technique incapacitated someone like Kabuto Yakushi, it's safe to say that Izanami is truly one of the most dangerous powers in Naruto.
The Mangekyou Sharingan Also Has Special Abilities

Most fans are already aware that the Mangekyou Sharingan is more special and deadly than the regular one. Not only does the Mangekyou Sharingan have all the abilities of the normal Sharingan, but it also has certain special techniques that vary from person to person. For example, Itachi Uchiha had access to Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu, which are two of the strongest abilities in all of Naruto.
Naruto: How The Sharingan Lost Its Value In Boruto
The Sharingan is one of the best abilities created by Kishimoto in Naruto. Much of its value was lost in Boruto.
Tsukuyomi is largely believed to be one of the deadliest Genjutsu in the series. Anyone caught within the Genjutsu would experience the same brutal treatment over and over again, causing them to lose track of time. This left the victim in a state of distress, and emerging from it was a massive challenge. Even the mighty Kakashi Hatake was hospitalized for days after experiencing the effects of Tsukuyomi.
Aside from Itachi, there are other Uchiha who awakened their Mangekyou Sharingan and obtained special powers. These include:
- Sasuke could only use Amaterasu, but he could control it far better than Itachi, thanks to his second eye.
- Obito Uchiha was able to use short-range Kamui, allowing him to phase through attacks.
- Kakashi had the long-range version of Kamui with which he could send any object or person into the Kamui dimension.
- Shisui's Mangekyou Sharingan gave him access to Kotoamatsukami, the best Genjutsu that a normal human being could use.
- Shin Uchiha used his Mangekyou Sharingan to brand objects and telekinetically control them.
Some characters, like Izuna, Madara, and Indra, also had the Mangekyou Sharingan, but they didn't have special abilities. Of course, it's down to Kishimoto, as he was the one making the calls. The author likely decided against giving the idea of giving these characters more unique skills, which is shocking, as two of the aforementioned characters are rather important to the story. If Kishimoto had given them new abilities, it would have certainly made the characters more interesting. Unfortunately, Kishimoto has moved on from Naruto, so the mysteries will never be resolved.
