When the Boruto series officially began, the very first thing that Masashi Kishimoto treated fans with was an intriguing prologue that set the tone for the remainder of the story. At the very beginning of Boruto, the author gave a look at a rather dystopian version of the ninja world where large-scale destruction was prominent, with Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki being the only two alive. What's even more shocking is the revelation that the age of Shinobi had ended.

Age Of Shinobi End In Naruto boruto

Shinobi have existed for a millennium in the world of Naruto. They traced their roots back to the Sage of Six Paths, who was the son of Kaguya Otsutsuki, a legendary being who came from a different planet and ended up consuming the chakra fruit on Earth. Instead of going from planet to planet to destroy life and get stronger, Kaguya decided to rule on Earth, and for quite a while, she was actually worshipped. However, when her two sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, saw her evil ways, they decided to confront her and eventually took her down. By this point, Kaguya had fused with the God Tree and became the Ten-Tails itself. Then, Hagoromo became the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, and at his deathbed, he ended up creating the Nine-Tails by splitting the chakra of the beast.

Hagoromo was followed by his two children, who ended up becoming the basis for the shinobi kind. These two were Indra and Asura, both of whom had inherited his strong powers in one way or another. Then, centuries passed and the shinobi kind extended, especially since Hagoromo went from place to place spreading chakra through Ninshu.

Now, fast forward over a thousand years, and the Shinobi kind is about to go extinct in Boruto, and the very first chapter of the series teases that very fact. When Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki fight at the top of the Hokage faces, Kawaki clearly states that the age of shinobi is over. To this, Boruto agrees, but states that he is still a shinobi. Clearly, at this point in the story, Boruto is the last living shinobi, while Kawaki doesn't even consider himself to be one.

  • It is unsurprising to know that the question of how the shinobi world ended bothers the fans. The shinobi line was quite strong, and together, they were the strongest force on the entire planet. Yet somehow, the shinobi have all ceased to exist, despite being incredibly powerful overall. One key to how the shinobi line could have been ended ties back to none other than the Shinju, who are currently running rampant in the world.

The Shinju Could End The Age Of Shinobi

They Are Still Growing In Boruto

Shinju End Age Of Shinobi boruto

The Shinju are powerful creatures that currently stand as the main antagonists of the Boruto series. They were created by none other than Code, using the power of Claw Marks. Code infected the Tentails with the power of Claw Marks and split it up into more humanoid versions. They then sought nearest sources of chakra and eventually developed a conscience of their own. The Ten Tails evolved in a way where it went past its own instinct and thus developed strong personalities. The Ten Tails clones, also known as the Shinju, are incredibly powerful, as well as intelligent at the moment. But, they are only babies, and with time, they are going to grow even stronger and become even more dangerous.

The age of shinobi is over, Boruto. — Kawaki

The strongest of them all is Jura, their leader, and he is the incarnation of the Ten-Tails itself. Jura is stated to be even stronger than the likes of Isshiki Otsutsuki, and that's what makes him truly dangerous right now. Even the likes of Boruto and Kawaki cannot compete with Jura and defeat him, and that makes him a big threat. The big thing here to keep in mind is that Jura poses no threat to anyone as long as he isn't antagonized. But, the moment he grows further, he could very well become a threat capable of destroying the entire world. It is highly likely that it is Jura who goes on to end the shinobi in the Boruto series and then destroys the 5 Great Nations all by himself.

Kawaki Will Attempt To Kill Boruto In The Chaos

Kawaki Vs Boruto Will Happen In A Destroyed Ninja World

Kawaki Vs Boruto

While most fans will be quick to point the finger at Kawaki when it comes to the destruction of the shinobi kind, the truth is that Kawaki has little to gain from that. The only enemy that Kawaki has at this point in the story is none other than the Otsutsuki. Kawaki wants to eliminate them all and, at the same time, kill Boruto because he too is influenced by the Otsutsuki in one way or another. For Kawaki, destroying the shinobi kind serves no purpose at all. However, Jura could easily go on to destroy everything.

I am still a shinobi! — Boruto Uzumaki

Jura and his followers follow their own instincts, and they don't care about the existence of shinobi. They most certainly wouldn't think twice before ending a shinobi village. In fact, quite a few of them have already attacked Shinobi villages such as Matsuri, and, as such, with their growing thirst for knowledge and acting on emotions, they could easily go on to lay waste to the Shinobi kind.

This would then tie back to the fight between Boruto and Kawaki. Naturally, fans would wonder as to why Kawaki would state that the age of Shinobi is over. The fact is that, as the age of shinobi ends, Boruto and Kawaki would likely be helpless to stop it. And, at that point, Kawaki would probably use the chaos to end Boruto Uzumaki once and for all. It must be remembered that, in Kawaki's mind, Boruto is an enemy since he carries the powers of the Otsutsuki. He wants to eliminate Boruto at all costs to protect the Seventh Hokage. As such, even in a world where the Shinobi no longer exist, Kawaki wants to end Boruto for good.

In the end, the Shinobi kind is not going to go extinct, and that much is clear. Boruto and Kawaki will both survive, as will the vast majority of the next generation characters in one way or another. Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha will also return, and the Shinobi kind will rebuild once again. The Shinobi have survived for thousands of years, and they are not going to go extinct now. This plot point might seem concerning to the fans at first, but it goes without saying that at the end of the day, the ninjas will come out on top once again.
