This article contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues to expand the lore of Naruto in interesting ways. Aside from unexpected enemies like the humanoid Divine Trees, we are being introduced to so many concepts and abilities, like Planetary Chakra, Omnipotence, and Prescience. The story is heading in such an interesting direction that it is impossible not to look forward to new chapters.

Recently, Sarada Uchiha reawakened the Mangekyo Sharingan and the story unexpectedly introduced her new amazing abilities. Sarada has come a long way, and she still has much more to show and grow as a character, but it is hard to deny that the story is setting her up to be one of the most overpowered characters ever. While she could still unlock more powerful kekkei gekkai doujutsu, does she need anything more than her Mangekyo Sharingan?

How Powerful Is Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan?

Sarada first awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, but due to various circumstances, she reawakened it in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex — she apparently doesn't remember doing it before. At that time, she did it after hearing that Naruto Uzumaki, the person she most admires in the story, had died, which is actually not true but is what almost everyone believes now due to Eida's Omnipotence ability.]

Don't worry. This ability may have just awakened, but... I already know what it can do.

Anyway, Sarada reawakens it in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex and while the story hasn't shown exactly what Sarada can do with the reawakened Mangekyo Sharingan, it has already introduced one of the most overpowered jutsu in Naruto, Ohirume.

Ohirume Means Sarada Can Be Even More Overpowered

There is still a lot to be explained about Ohirume, but so far we know that this jutsu allows Sarada to create black holes and control gravity to some degree, and she defeated a Shinju Clone with it. It is expected that this technique will have its drawbacks, which are yet to be introduced, but the story already shows how much Sarada can do with the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Of course, as the series progresses, she will likely learn even more powerful jutsu — some expect her to unleash the Susanoo at some point. Aside from the jutsu tied to the Sharingan, Sarada has inherited a strong chakra control from Sakura, and she may eventually unlock the Byakugo Seal, even though it would be difficult; Sakura took years to finally do it, and we don't have much evidence that Sarada is even trying to unleash something as complex as the Byakugo, but it's definitely a possibility.

Does Sarada Need The Rinnegan?

Sarada is powerful enough with the Mangekyo Sharingan, and considering that she will probably become even more powerful, it seems that she doesn't really need the Rinnegan to become one of the most powerful shinobi ever. Her Mangekyo Sharingan is already more powerful than Sasuke's, so there seems to be no need for anything else.

However, the Mangekyo Sharingan has a serious drawback: it eventually leads to blindness. Actually, this could be one of the downsides of using Ohirume; if it speeds up the process of becoming blind, it would add a sense of urgency to the story. Anyway, what Sarada needs more than the Rinnegan is a good master, just as Boruto learned a lot from Sasuke.

Making Sarada So Overpowered Poses A Risk to the Story

While Sarada could eventually awaken the Rinnegan or get the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which would solve the blindness issue, it might make the story a bit boring. With someone so overpowered, Boruto could get to the point where power scaling only hinders the narrative, since the enemies will have to be even stronger to match how overpowered the main characters already are.

Boruto is probably setting the stage to make the Otsutsuki clan the final antagonists of the story, and we know that they are insanely powerful. But if the main characters are just as powerful and have "nothing to lose", it would take away some of the tension and the sense of urgency of the story — and that could be the case if Sarada is not even in danger of going blind. Of course, things could turn out in such a way that she gets the Rinnegan or the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan without affecting the tension of the story's climax, but it would be a risk either way.
