Hokage is a title that is given to the leader of the village Hidden in the Leaf. They are the strongest individuals present in their village, and they have the greatest authority in the village — being respected by everyone, even their enemies. They are, without a doubt, some of the best shinobi in the world, and they are feared by every other nation due to their tremendous power. From the beginning of the story, there have been seven Hokage, all of whom have powers that defy logic.

Madara Uchiha was the former leader of the Uchiha Clan and the rival of Hashirama Senju. He is an immensely powerful individual who possesses power that rivals even the Tailed Beasts at their full strength. They survived inside Kurama for a very long time by eating his flesh. This granted them the powers of the Nine Tails, meaning abnormal chakra reserves and some other properties of a Jinchuriki. With this newfound power, they became even stronger, which helped them to fight against the Raikage and Hokage. Tobirama was the Hokage who was defeated by their hands. Orochimaru was introduced in the first part of Naruto as a menacing ninja who was feared by even the likes of Kakashi. He was the first great threat that Konoha faced, and the only one that was able to stop him at that time was none other than his former teacher, Hiruzen. Orochimaru knew that the Third Hokage was not someone to take lightly, as even at his old age, he possessed strength that exceeded that of the other Kage. With the help of Edo Tensei, Orochimaru summoned the First and Second Hokage to fight against Hiruzen. It was a very tough fight for him, but he eventually succeeded. The cost of victory was high, as his hands became useless because of the Reaper Death Seal.

Hiruzen was the Third Hokage who lived for this village till the very end, and he didn't go down without a fight. When Orochimaru launched an assault on the village, Hiruzen confronted him, and their battle commenced. Orochimaru came prepared, as he summoned two Hokage to fight alongside him, which made it really tough to survive against them. But, Hiruzen persevered and put up the fight of a lifetime. Even though he was old and outnumbered, he was still able to go toe-to-toe against them. In the end, he knew he only had limited time, so he used the Reaper Death Seal as a last resort. He sealed Hashirama and Tobirama, which essentially defeated them, but at the cost of his life.
