This post contains spoilers for Boruto.

Masashi Kishimoto is the author of Naruto, a manga that is widely believed to be the best thing to come out of Shonen Jump. Of course, it is not an objectively correct claim, but there is no denying that Kishimoto has created a series that can certainly stake a claim at being the best.

What makes Naruto such an impressive series is how well it handles the characters and builds on their stories without compromising the quality. None of this would have happened without Kishimoto, who dedicated years of his life to the manga. He spent a long time working on the characters, and it's safe to say that Naruto Uzumaki took up most of it. After all, he is the protagonist of the series.

Naruto Is One Of The Most Iconic Anime Protagonists

  • Kishimoto and Ikemoto tainted Naruto's legacy
  • Naruto's reputation is no longer the same

From the beginning, Naruto Uzumaki has been a fan favorite, and the reason wasn't his powers but rather his personality. It would be a lie to say that Naruto Uzumaki has the most emotional backstory in all of anime, but no one can deny that it is enough to melt the coldest of hearts. Despite losing his parents to the Nine-Tails, Naruto was the one whom the Hidden Leaf villagers targeted. They didn't care that he was just a kid. To them, he was the person who was responsible for the death and destruction caused by the Nine Tails. Some of the parents even stopped their kids from playing with Naruto, which was truly disgraceful behavior. Overall, it was bizarre to see adults blaming a young boy to cover up the village's inability to deal with a tailed beast.

Despite being mistreated by them, Naruto didn't turn evil or start killing people. Instead, he focused on getting stronger and becoming the Hokage. Even after he grew up, most villagers treated him the same. Their behavior didn't change until Naruto defeated the Six Paths of Pain and saved the village from complete annihilation. Following his victory, they started calling him a hero, but that just showed their selfishness. They only started caring about Naruto after he had saved them from certain death. But yet again, Naruto didn't take any of it to heart and kept on improving.

Becoming The Greatest Hero In Anime History

Towards the end of the manga, Naruto had to participate in the Fourth Great Ninja War to save the entire world from being overrun by the likes of Obito, Madara, and Kaguya. The first challenge for Naruto was stopping Obito, who was hellbent on reshaping the ninja world. After he acquired the Ten-Tails, his dream became a possibility. Obito became overpowered to the point where almost none of the ninjas could stop him. As always, Naruto took the initiative to stop Obito without violence. He talked to the Uchiha and led him out of the darkness. Naruto even let go of the fact that Obito was responsible for the deaths of Minato and Kushina. Some fans were upset with Naruto's behavior, but that's how he has always been—understanding people's pain and forgiving them. So, it was absolutely not out of character for him.

After Obito, Naruto had to stop Madara and Kaguya, both of whom were immensely powerful individuals. The hero got lucky against Madara as Hagoromo bestowed him with the Six Paths Chakra. However, Kaguya proved to be a very dangerous foe. She was unlike anything that Naruto or the heroes had fought in their lives. So, they had to dig deep to survive and beat her. When Naruto successfully stopped Kaguya, he had one more battle left, and it was arguably his toughest, as he had to fight Sasuke Uchiha, a person whom he called his best friend and brother.

During the war, Sasuke had made up his mind to become the Hokage and rule over the people with fear. He believed that the world would be better if all people hated him. However, Naruto couldn't let that happen. While fighting Sasuke, Naruto was holding back because he didn't want to kill his best friend. However, the Uchiha had no such problem because he wanted to get rid of Naruto. Despite not going all-out, Naruto defeated Sasuke and made him realize his folly. Years after the war was over, Naruto finally got what he wanted—to become the Hokage.

Kishimoto Ruined Naruto's Legacy In Boruto

Before Boruto: Naruto Next Generations had even begun, Kishimoto had already started disrespecting Naruto Uzumaki. On the day when Naruto was supposed to be officially declared the Hokage, Kishimoto decided to add a 'funny' twist. He made Himawari knock out Naruto, leaving him in no state to even move a muscle. Meanwhile, the angst among the people was growing because of Naruto's lateness. Kishimoto then made things worse by making Konohamaru transform into Naruto and attend the ceremony. This was the first stain on Naruto's legacy. Naruto worked hard for years because being Hokage was his dream, and to rob him of it was just a cruel joke.

I Will Shoulder Your Hatred And Die With You! Because I'm Your Friend!

Things got worse in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations when Kishimoto and Ikemoto began putting in more and more members of the Otsutsuki Clan. These individuals could lay waste to entire armies, so it's natural they wouldn't go easy on Naruto. Momoshiki and Kinshiki were the first ones. For most of the fight, the Otsutsuki had the advantage. In order to win, Naruto had to team up with Sasuke, and even then, Boruto had to save them.

Naruto And Sasuke Have Been Treated Horribly In Boruto

Not long afterward, Naruto and Sasuke had to fight Jigen (Isshiki Otsutuki's vessel). It wasn't a fight but more of a humiliation for the two legendary ninjas. Isshiki toyed with them, and they were absolutely clueless as to how they could win. This was when Kishimoto gave Naruto the Baryon Mode, an amazing power-up for sure, but one that had a steep cost. In order to use Baryon Mode, Kurama had to die. The Nine-Tails didn't even disclose the truth to Naruto, as it knew he would never allow it. So, Kurama tricked Naruto and then died, leaving Naruto all alone. Imagine taking away one of Naruto's closest friends, who had been with him for decades.

If that's not bad enough, Kishimoto and Ikemoto decided to sideline Naruto completely by having him sealed away. It's been years since Naruto was sealed, but there has been zero evidence of his return. Many avid Naruto fans have dropped the Boruto manga altogether, as they couldn't stand their favorite character being mistreated. This has affected the sales of the manga, leading many to question whether the series will survive for long enough. Hopefully, Kishimoto sees sense and advises Ikemoto to change things and bring back Naruto and Sasuke, so that they guide Boruto and the rest of the new generation towards victory. At the moment, the chances of their return are low, but fans shouldn't give up just yet.
