When the remake of Resident Evil 3 was released last year, it received some pretty good feedback from the community, though many were letdown by the game's lack of scares and short length. However, there have been rumors about a possible Nemesis Edition coming at some point, which could see some additional content being added, like weapons, and old game areas being reinstated. Currently, there have been no confirmations on whether this edition will be happening, but some small updates to the base game have left people wondering whether it is true.

According to a report, as well as a recent Reddit post, Resident Evil 3 has been receiving a number of updates over the last couple of months, and the community doesn't seem to know exactly what they do. A user posted all the most recent patches that have been rolled out for the Steam version of the game, with the latest update being from a few days ago. Without any further details, the poster is left baffled as to what they could mean, asking whether this does mean some new content is on the way.

While one person has suggested this could be a ray tracing update, this has been dismissed in favor of the theory that it could be in preparation for the still-rumored Nemesis Edition. Others in the comments are hopeful that this will be the case, but at this stage there is very little to go on. Another possible theory is that Capcom could be adding Easter eggs into the game, once again hinting at a possible Resident Evil 4 remake.

Given that Resident Evil games are known for their Easter eggs, this one could be possible, but the mysterious updates are so ambiguous, that it's impossible to tell outside simple guesswork. Many in the community would love for some extra content, but the patches could mean almost anything, including a next-gen upgrade. Again, it's worth reiterating that these are mere speculations, and there has been no official word from the studio either confirming or denying a Nemesis Edition of the game.

Having said that, it doesn't stop the fan base from reading between the lines. Many would happily welcome a new edition of the game. Resident Evil 3 is by no means the worst in the series, but its brevity has left players wanting more. The opportunity for Capcom to add additional content to increase the game's length is something that can only please the fans.

Resident Evil 3 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
