Shoto Todoroki is an interesting character in the world of My Hero Academia. He’s the son of Endeavor, Japan’s #2 Pro Hero, and he was born out of a forced marriage that was meant to create the perfect Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot. This power acted as both a blessing and a curse for Shoto, because it allowed him to become one of U.A. High School’s best and strongest students, but it also acted as a constant reminder of his father’s interfamilial abuse.

My Hero Academia: All Might's Most OP Moments, Ranked

These moments proved just how great of a hero All Might is.

Throughout the story of My Hero Academia, Shoto Todoroki had to learn how to use his incredibly versatile Quirk and make it his own, which naturally led to a good number of memorable scenes that showcased how overpowered he truly is. Needless to say, there are a lot of solid examples to choose from, but the following eight are the most notorious ones in the entire series.

Quickly Defeating Sero At The Sports Festival

He Channeled His Own Resentment Into One Powerful Attack

  • Chapter 34 (Manga) Episode 20 (Anime)

It’s safe to say that the U.A. Sports Festival Arc was Shoto’s most important story arc, as it was the one in which he finally rebelled against his father, formed a healthy rivalry with Deku, and accepted the fire-based half of his Quirk. However, achieving all of that certainly wasn’t easy, as it can be seen when he faced Hanta Sero in a one-on-one duel.

Shoto met Endeavor and argued with him shortly before the match, which left him incredibly angry. As a result, when his battle against Sero began, he didn’t hesitate to generate a giant wall of ice that trapped his classmate in seconds, completely humiliating him in front of thousands in the process. While Shoto tried apologizing to him and explained that he was just angry with his father, this single moment still proved that he was way stronger than most of his peers.

Knocking Deku Out At The Sports Festival

The Scene That Turned Many My Hero Academia Viewers Into Lifelong Fans

  • Chapter 40 (Manga) Episode 23 (Anime)

The rivalry between Shoto and Izuku Midoriya was truly fascinating, as they technically were the successors of Endeavor and All Might respectively, the two strongest and most popular Pro Heroes of their country. Fortunately, this relationship was the main focus of the U.A. Sports Festival Arc and, after so much buildup, they finally got to face each other in a climactic final fight.

This not only was a physical confrontation, but also a philosophical one, as Deku urged his opponent to embrace the fire-based half of Quirk, reject his father, and use it in battle. His efforts paid off, as Shoto ended up accepting Half-Cold Half-Hot and unleashing his full potential, which allowed him to use one of his most destructive Ultimate Moves: Flashfreeze Heatwave. With it, he was able to win the match by knocking out his opponent, and it's important to remember that Deku was also using his own Quirk, One for All, at full force, which makes Shoto’s victory even more impressive.

Intercepting Deku With An Ice Wall

Another Moment That Proved Why He’s One Of Class 1-A’s Strongest Students

  • Chapter 320 (Manga) Episode 136 (Anime)

Shortly after Deku left U.A. High School and began working as a Pro Hero on his own, his former classmates joined forces to try and reason with him and bring him back to their school. Every single member of Class 1-A had a part to play in this monumental mission, but Shoto had one of the biggest and most important roles.

These moments showed us all just how great a hero Deku really is.

At one point during the brawl between Deku and Class 1-A, Shoto created a massive Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall (similar to the one he used against Hanta Sero) that quickly intercepted his friend and restrained him for a few seconds. While Midoriya was eventually able to break from the ice, this was still an incredible feat on Shoto’s part, and it's safe to say that the rest of the class would never have been able to slow down Deku without his help.

Helping Defeat Chimera

He Had A Crucial Role In One Of Class 1-A’s Most Important Fights

  • My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising

The My Hero Academia movies are full of extremely powerful characters and, unbeknownst to some fans, all of them are 100% canon. One of the most remarkable examples of this phenomenon is Chojuro Kon (AKA Chimera), one of the main antagonists of the second film in the series, Heroes: Rising.

Chojuro Kon’s quirk (also called Chimera) gives him the characteristics of a large variety of animals, which makes him incredibly strong and durable, and even allows him to breathe fire. It took the efforts of multiple Class 1-A members to finally bring him down, with Shoto having the absolute most important role in the fight. Not only did he use his ice to restrain Chimera and block his fire attacks, but, with the help of his friends, he was eventually able to freeze the villain’s entire body by launching a powerful ice attack in his mouth.

Defeating Leviathan

Shoto’s First One-On-One Movie Fight

  • My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission

The third My Hero Academia movie, World Heroes’ Mission, had a bigger focus on Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto as a trio, which allowed the writers to give each one of them a full-fledged cinematic solo fight. In Shoto Todoroki’s case, his opponent was Leviathan, a hulking villain that wielded the Helical Scythe Quirk, which allowed him to extend, spin, and manipulate the tendrils in his hands. To make things even worse, he had consumed Trigger, which boosted the strength of his Quirk even further.

Shoto’s clash against Leviathan was quite a difficult one for the young hero, as the villain was able to repeatedly use Helical Scythe to break through his ice. Even when he used his scorching-hot flames, Leviathan’s resilient body was able to withstand their high temperatures, until Shoto ultimately unleashed a Flashfire Fist: Jet Kindling that burned the villain from the inside and finally knocked him out. Leviathan is one of the most powerful characters in the franchise, and the fact that Shoto was able to defeat him on his own, without any outside help, is nothing short of spectacular.

Landing A Final Flashfire Fist On All For One

Shoto And His Dad Assisted Deku During The Final Battle Of The Series

  • Chapter 421 (Manga) Episode 167 (Anime)

Shoto’s role during the Final War Arc was closely tied to his personal story, as he worked alongside his family to stop his brother, Dabi, from destroying the entire city. However, even after fighting him on two separate occasions and withstanding multiple dangerous burns, both Shoto and his father, Endeavor, still showed up to assist Deku during his climactic final battle against One for All.

With the help of Kurogiri’s Warp Gate, Shoto and Endeavor appeared right in front of the villain and landed a destructive dual Flashfire Fist on him, which not only dealt massive damage but also prevented him from attacking and stopping Deku. Despite their critical injuries, they were both able to play an important role during the final fight, which once again cemented them as two of the most powerful and unstoppable Pro Heroes in the series.

Stopping Dabi Once And For All

He Was Finally Able To Stop His Brother’s Explosive Rampage

  • Chapter 390 (Manga) Episode 157 (Anime)

Even though Shoto technically defeated Dabi in their initial battle, his brother was able to replicate his Phosphor technique and escaped in search of their father, Endeavor. However, and with the help of his good friend Iida Tenya, Shoto was eventually able to reach Dabi before his fire-based Quirk could go overboard and unleash a devastating nuclear explosion.

Of course, the rest of the Todoroki Family (Enji, Rei, Natsuo, and Fuyumi) reached Dabi before Shoto did and used their ice-based powers to slowly slow down his fiery self-destruction, but it was the youngest brother who finally stopped him with his Great Glacial Aegir technique. Even though he received help from his family, this means that Shoto technically stopped a nuclear explosion on his own, which still remains as one of the most impressive achievements in the entire series.

Phosphor / Great Glacial Aegir

The Culmination Of Shoto's Lifelong Quirk Training

  • Chapter 352 (Manga) Episode 146 (Anime)

Shoto Todoroki was literally born with a nearly perfect quirk that allowed him to generate and manipulate both fire and ice. However, he constantly struggled to equally use both elements at the same time, and he spent a lot of time working towards this goal. After many months of excruciating training, he was finally able to put his abilities to the test during his final battle against Dabi.

While his brother’s Blueflame kept getting hotter and hotter, Shoto used the technique that he spent so much time working on: Flashfire Fist: Phosphor, which allowed him to generate “cold flames” that granted him incredible power. But that’s not all, as he used this technique to unleash his most powerful Ultimate Move: Great Glacial Aegir, a massive explosion of "cold fire" that was able to extinguish Dabi’s flames and freeze his entire body. Yes, he eventually used this move once again to stop Dabi’s self-destruction later on in the same arc, but he received help from his family on that occasion, whereas the first time he used Great Glacial Aegir, he was completely on his own, thus making it his most overpowered moment in all of My Hero Academia.
