Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia has, over the years, become an iconic series. My Hero Academia rose in popularity after the end of the likes of Naruto, and held up weekly Shonen Jump for a decade as one of its biggest pillars. Sadly, after a successful run, My Hero Academia ended in 2024, and since then, fans have just been looking for something to fill in the gap. While nothing will ever truly replace MHA, these new-gen series can be a great read for fans of Horikoshi's masterpiece.
Akane-banashi
Akane-banashi is a Shonen Jump manga that has been growing in popularity lately, and it will soon be getting an anime adaptation. Akane-banashi isn’t a battle Shonen like My Hero Academia, but it definitely shares some elements fans would enjoy.
Akane-banashi is set in a school setting, and the main character, Akane, wants to reach the highest rank in Rakugo. The anime is set to air in 2026 for this series, and many fans can’t wait.
Kagurabachi
Kagurabachi is one of the biggest new-gen hits Weekly Shonen Jump has to offer, and it revolves around stunning sword battles. The story sees Chihiro set out to retrieve the enchanted blades, and if there's one direct replacement for MHA, it's probably this manga. Kagurabachi started in 2023, and based on reports, it definitely seems like the series will be receiving an anime adaptation very soon.
Recently, some interesting connections between My Hero Academia and Kagurabachi were also revealed. Many fans were surprised to know that Horikoshi, MHA’s creator, was heavily involved with Kagurabachi’s first chapter, overseeing it. Horikoshi has also spoken about how Kagurabachi’s creator, Hokazono, has previously helped him with a MHA chapter.
Ichi the Witch
Out of all the new manga out there, one that fans can’t stop comparing to My Hero Academia is Ichi the Witch. Ichi the Witch started almost immediately after My Hero Academia’s end, and many have been referring to it as My Hero Academia’s successor series. In a world full of Majiks, women can utilize immense magic, and a young boy, Ichi, finds himself becoming the first male witch.
Ichi the Witch just turned a year old, and it still has a long way to go. However, many fans can see the similar elements between the two series, such as the protagonists, and even the power system. Fans can’t wait for the day Ichi the Witch gets an anime and reaches new heights of popularity.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is one of the newest manga series to join Weekly Shonen Jump. As the name suggests, this series is a sequel to none other than Gege Akutami's beloved series, Jujutsu Kaisen. Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia both left Jump at the same time, and Modulo has been the perfect replacement since.
Sadly, Modulo will be just a short manga and will run for just a few more months, unless Gege has a change of plans. Still, so far, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been amazing, and an interesting change from the original series.
Gege’s New Manga
Gege Akutami is the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, and fans know that he ended his first manga not long ago. For quite a few years, JJK was serializing side by side with My Hero Academia. Both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia ended together, just a few months apart. This definitely hit the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine hard.
Nevertheless, Gege wants to make a comeback beyond Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Gege wants to create a new story, and it could well be a huge change from Jujutsu Kaisen. Whatever this new story is, fans know that it'll be massive, and anything that Gege writes is sure to become huge, and a potential replacement for series like JJK and MHA.
Horikoshi’s New Manga
Undoubtedly, if there’s one manga that could go on to truly replace the gap that My Hero Academia has left behind, it’s the new series Horikoshi is planning to create.
Based on the information available, whatever Horikoshi creates will be a huge departure from My Hero Academia. However, there will still be similar elements in writing, seeing as both would share the very same creator. It’s unknown when Horikoshi’s new manga will come out, but it's quite clear that he's working on it already. Fans are looking forward to seeing what he can come up with and are excited for his future projects.
