This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia's Epilogue.
My Hero Academia wrapped up officially in 2024, and fans have, since then, been waiting for the author, Kohei Horikoshi, to drop more information about the world following the Final War. This is not surprising at all, given that the world of My Hero Academia still has a lot of room to be expanded even further.
Shonen Jump’s Official Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia Successor Is Getting An Anime Soon
JJK and MHA ended last year, and Shonen Jump finally has a new series that could succeed them.
Horikoshi already expanded upon the ending of Deku and Ochaco, and at the same time, also revealed to the fans that he actually changed the ending of the series for Deku and the side characters. Knowing that Deku would originally have ended My Hero Academia Quirkless and never become a Hero again, fans, naturally, wonder what the author had in store for Bakugo Katsuki as well. While the author didn't explicitly state what Bakugo's true ending was, he most certainly has revealed that it would've been very different.
Bakugo Would've Been Higher Ranked On Hero Charts
Bakugo Dropped To 15th In Hero Rankings
- Bakugo debuted at the 4th rank and then fell to 15th
- He is now the No. 5 Hero in Japan
When speaking of Bakugo's ending, one thing almost always comes up, and it is that he would've been ranked very differently on the Hero Billboard Chart. For those who don't know, Bakugo debuted in the Hero Billboard Chart at Number 4, but eventually, he dropped to 15th place. This is largely because of Bakugo's bad behavior and rudeness. Because he acted the way he did, he lost a lot of rankings.
At the moment, you seemed like you needed saving. — Izuku Midoriya
However, eventually, Bakugo gained rankings once again after Izuku Midoriya received his new Hero Armor. Bakugo wanted to compete with Izuku again, so he took things seriously once more. This eventually put Bakugo in the 5th spot, right behind Izuku Midoriya.
My Hero Academia: Kohei Horikoshi Reveals The Original Ending Of MHA Before He Officially Changed It
MHA's ending upset many fans, but the original ending Horikoshi had in mind could have been even worse.
However, in Horikoshi's original ending for My Hero Academia, Izuku was supposed to stay Quirkless forever and remain a teacher. This means Bakugo wouldn't have relished the competition with him ever again. It also means that Bakugo's Hero Rankings would've been very different. Perhaps, Bakugo would've stayed at the Number 15 spot. Or, it is also possible that he would've simply gone up to the No. 1 spot, especially if Horikoshi only dropped his ranks to have him compete with Izuku.

Bakugo's Ending Is Heavily Influenced By Deku's Changed Ending
Bakugo Could've Been The Number 1 Hero
Another way in which Bakugo's ending would've been very different in My Hero Academia would be by not being riddled with guilt. Bakugo bullied Izuku Midoriya quite a bit when they grew up and he profusely apologized in many ways after he came to his senses. Bakugo giving him a Hero Armor was another way for him to apologize to Izuku. But, if Izuku were to never be a Hero again, then Bakugo would simply have to forgive himself and move on, carrying Izuku’s ideals himself and aim for the top.
Undoubtedly, Bakugo and Izuku's endings are connected, and the fact that Horikoshi changed Izuku's ending directly affected Bakugo's ending drastically. Bakugo would probably already be the top Hero in Japan or in competition with Mirio for it, at the very least, if it weren't for this major change.
The My Hero Academia manga concluded with 431 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus. When it comes to the anime, this series is still awaiting its final season, which will be released later this year. The series can be watched on Crunchyroll.
