This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia.

My Hero Academia has officially ended, but fans know very well that the hype for it is alive and well, especially with the anime adaptation of the last stretch of the manga on the way. Most fans of the series have read the manga already and know exactly how the story ends. Fans also know that, despite the manga's end, things ended in such an open manner that there is a ton of potential for sequel and spin-off stories.

As such, it doesn't come as a surprise to anyone that Horikoshi keeps revisiting My Hero Academia occasionally with his exciting projects and reveals more exciting information to the fans. With the release of the final volume of the manga, Horikoshi seems to have officially killed off the idea of one of the most popular potential couples, or ships, in not just My Hero Academia, but in all anime in general, and that's the relationship of Bakugo and Deku.

  • Ochaco was always the heroine

My Hero Academia’s original ending was quite open-ended, both in terms of what it meant for the Heroes and Villains of the world, and at the same time, personal relationships between various characters as well. When it came to personal relationships, Horikoshi didn't want to get too hands-on with things and risk upsetting his fans, which would inevitably happen no matter which way he went. As such, in the original ending, he left things untouched.

But, when the final volume of My Hero Academia dropped, Horikoshi added a bonus chapter with it, and this chapter is officially canon. Horikoshi and all the fans consider it the 431st chapter of My Hero Academia, and in it, he officially went on to confirm that Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka are now dating. This whole chapter was about the two and how, after years of drifting apart, they still felt deeply about each other and harbored feelings of love. At the very end, Izuku and Ochaco decide to rekindle their friendship, and take things a step further. Horikoshi clearly showed them dating at the end of My Hero Academia 431.

He just invited you to join his agency, don't you get it? — Kirishima to Izuku

While this was great for Izuku and Ochaco fans, for fans of the Izuku and Bakugo ship, this was the dagger to the heart. For years, some fans believed with all their heart that Horikoshi was building towards an ending of Izuku and Bakugo sharing a special moment together. Instead, he went the other way and confirmed Izuku's romantic partner to be Ocacho.

It is unfortunate for the fans who wanted Izuku and Bakugo to develop a deeper relationship at the end of My Hero Academia. The author didn't show it, but it goes without saying that Izuku and Bakugo's relationship has only gotten better. They're closer than ever before, and they still have the same love and care for each other, and that goes without saying. That said, it is, unfortunately, now canon that Izuku's romantic partner is Ochaco. Still, that doesn't stop the fans from making their own versions of the story after the end of the manga. After all, everyone's free to imagine things as they'd like.
