However, things were very different for Deku, who was the hero of the Final War of My Hero Academia. Of course, in this war, Deku became the greatest Hero, however, at the same time, the sacrifices that he ended up making were absolutely immense.

This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia chapter 430.

The Loss Of One For All During The Final War Arc

Deku Lost The One For All In MHA’s Last Arc

Deku became the ninth and the final user of One For All in My Hero Academia. He inherited this quirk from none other than All Might, who inherited this quirk from his own master, Nana Shimura. After gaining this incredible power, Deku trained his mind and body in ways that pushed them beyond all their limits. Deku had to become a worthy wielder of the One For All, and he certainly worked immensely hard to gain control of this power. The One For All wasn't easy for him to control. However, with time, Deku certainly got a hold of it. In fact, it can be said that he became the best user of One For All in all of the My Hero Academia series.

Goodbye, One For All! – Deku During The Fight Against Shigaraki

Not only did Deku gain the powers of the One For All, but at the same time, he had the powers of the vestiges as well. These powers made him the strongest Hero of all time, and he could do things that even All Might could not in his prime. Deku could even go head to head against Shigaraki, despite his super regeneration, durability, and strength comparable to All Might himself.

However, despite all that power that he had, he could not defeat him. In order to do that, Deku had to probe into his deepest of memories, damage him from the inside out, which is why he ended up transferring the vestiges inside Shigaraki one by one. When that happened, Shigaraki was damaged from the inside, and forced to see his own past. This is when All For One took over, and the final fight of My Hero Academia finally began. By this time, Deku had already transferred all of One For All to Shigaraki and he held this power inside of him. All he was left with were the embers of the Quirk, and he utilized those embers to defeat All For One for good.

My Hero Academia fans were hopeful that the Deku would continue to hold those embers for a significant portion of his life. This certainly was the case for a short while after the war. Deku still held on to the power of the embers of One For All, but, these embers were not always going to be there for him. Essentially, Deku was already Quirkless, only, he was on a timer. His powers were slowly running out with the usage of the quirk, and eventually, they ran out in My Hero Academia chapter 430. It was clear for the fans to see that by the time Deku graduated, the One For All had already been lost. Sadly enough, this is also the time when all of his friends started becoming Heroes and made a great name for themselves in the world, leaving him behind. Their contact with Deku was minimal, and for him, a different life was up ahead.

Following the burning out of the embers of the One For All, Deku chose a new path in life for himself. He was no longer a Hero, because he did not have enough strength to be a Hero anymore. Instead, Deku chose to be a teacher at UA. According to him, he lived out his dream to the utmost fullest. A dream that he considered to be impossible was fulfilled by him at the end of the war. However, with the conclusion of this massive battle, his dream came to an end as well. Deku ended up becoming the greatest Hero, and paid a huge price for it, as the One For All ceased to exist.

My story, which started when my body moved before I could even think, came to an end alongside the embers of One For All. – Deku

Now, Deku believes that his job is to make sure that the next generation gets to live out their dreams, which is what makes him very special. Deku was not resentful or sad. He can still aid Heroes without actually being a Hero, and that is something that goes to show his resourcefulness.

The story of MHA reaches its end in MHA chapter 430. The story wraps up major plot points.

Deku aided students in the UA and passed on his wisdom, and his experience to them on a daily basis. This is precisely why he is one of the greatest Heroes of all time. But, at his core, Deku did miss being a Hero and seeing all his friends succeed doing the job that he wanted badly as a kid must not have been easy.

Deku Gains A New Armor

  • Deku Finally Becomes A Hero Again At The End Of MHA

My Hero Academia chapter 430 essentially confirmed that Deku had lost the embers of the One For All and that he did not have this power anymore. However, that certainly did not mean that Deku could not gain any other power. Towards the end of My Hero Academia chapter 430, it was clear for the fans to see that Deku was set on the path of becoming a Hero once again. And this was made possible by none other than All Might and his fellow friends. Thanks to All Might's friends in the US, and effort from Mei, an armor similar to the one All Might wore during the Final War was crafted. Only, this armor is much stronger, given that science has advanced greatly over the course of the last 8 years. This armor essentially sees to it that Deku can become a Hero once again and live out his dream, alongside all the other Heroes that he befriended during his time in the UA.

The main reason this armor became a reality was none other than Bakugo, and in his own way, this was another apology that he believed that he owed to Deku. He took care of the core of the funding required for this armor, but all the other friends chipped in as well. Eventually, this masterpiece was completely developed, and offered to Deku. In the final panel of My Hero Academia, Deku donned this armor once again, and went about being a Hero alongside the rest of his friends once again. That truly was a fascinating ending to the story. Deku now has a new power, even though the One For All doesn't exist, and that just goes to show that anyone can truly become a hero.
