This article contains spoilers for the My Hero Academia series.
My Hero Academia has never really been about romance, given that it's primarily focused on the battle between Heroes and Villains. The series, despite being over 400 chapters long, has very few canon couples. Even among these canon couples, not all can even be classified as good either. Nonetheless, there are definitely some exciting relationships that have been confirmed by the author in one way or the other through the years. Fans definitely wish that Horikoshi sprinkled more romance into the story, even if just for side characters.
Izuku Midoriya And Ochaco Uraraka
Undoubtedly, a couple that everybody saw coming at the end of My Hero Academia was that of Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka. Horikoshi had set up their romance at the beginning of My Hero Academia, but despite that, this couple remains quite controversial in the fandom. At first, Horikoshi didn’t want to go out of his way to confirm the couple. However, it ended up happening anyway through the extra chapter that dropped after the end of the manga, as well as through extra comments from him.
Izuku and Ochaco have become one of the few great canon couples of My Hero Academia. Many fans do hope to see more of them together in future My Hero Academia content, if it ever happens.
Manami Aiba and Danjuro Tobita
When it comes to iconic couples in My Hero Academia that are in fans’ faces, one definitely has to mention that of Danjuro Tobita, also known as Gentle, and Manami Aiba, La Brava. Initially, these two were a pair of criminals, although with a peculiar sense of their version of justice. However, in MHA’s final arc, they sided with the Heroes in the battle against All For One and Shigaraki. They were definitely instrumental in the final war, and fans could see their relationship shine. La Brava and Gentle are definitely one of the most obvious couples that Horikoshi didn’t try to hide.
Yu Takeyama and Shinji Nishiya
Mt. Lady, also known by her real name of Yu Takeyama, and Kamui Woods, or Shinji Nishiya, are one of the most recent couples to emerge and get teased by the creator Horikoshi.
These two were introduced together early on in the story, and it seems that after a while of fighting together, they developed a romantic relationship. In MHA, rumors of their relationship spread like wildfire, so this was a couple that was largely expected. These two fought side by side during the Final War and held each other up whenever needed. They have definitely come to become one of the best couples of MHA, and the best part is that their ship was set up by the author himself. Right now, both Mt. Lady and Kamui Woods are high up in Japan’s Top Hero billboard.
Yo Shindo and Tatami Nakagame
Yo Shindo and Tatami Nakagame have never been a major focus in the MHA story. They are characters that fans don’t really see often and the two only have occasional appearances. Nevertheless, they have now been confirmed to be a canon couple, and definitely one of the most notable ones in MHA. Both Yo Shindo and Tatami Nakagame studied at Ketsubutsu Academy High School to become Pro Heroes.
Ever since fans first met them during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc, these two have always been together, so their couple makes sense. Even back during their first few appearances, they seemed extremely close. Their relationship was explicitly confirmed in the Ultra Age fanbook.
Shihai Kuroiro and Kinoko Komori
Another canon couple that is made up of two characters that fans don’t get to see often is that of Shihai Kuroiro and Kinoko Komori. While great characters, it's unfortunate that fans don't see enough of them. They're from UA High School and were a part of Class 1-B. Both Shihai and Kinoko were classmates, so their developing feelings for each other aren't surprising. Shihai Kuroiro and Kinoko Komori were high school sweethearts, and went from being classmates to being a couple. Their relationship was hinted at as far back as the Joint Training Battle. Fans would love to see more of the two together, but that can only happen if My Hero Academia continues.
