Out of the many Pro Heroes that dominate My Hero Academia’s hero scene, none compare to the might of Gran Torino. His appearance of a senile old man may sway viewers into underestimating this retired hero, yet this guise is merely a facade. From being the fastest hero alive to mentoring the Symbol of Peace himself, Gran Torino has many feats under his belt — all of which can be attributed to his unrivaled strength.
While much of Gran Torino’s strength can be traced back to his quirk “Jet,” he still boasts a number of attributes that equally contribute to his status within the hero world. Other than All Might and Deku’s training, Gran Torino has proven his exceptional strength time and again, and his role in the battle against All For One is a testament to this very fact.

Gran Torino has many facets to his strength and power, and each one has played an equal role in cementing his status among My Hero Academia’s hero landscape. However, the most vital aspect of Gran Torino’s entire repertoire is his speed, essentially turning him into an untraceable menace on the battlefield. With an agile and strategic trajectory guiding his speed, Gran Torino can take on even the strongest of foes.
His perfect command over his quirk is one of the reasons why he was able to train both All Might and Deku. Since speed is the primary aspect of both quirks, Gran Torino served as the perfect mentor for the two bearers of One For All. However, speed isn’t the only thing he relies on, as a keen intellect is his other weapon of choice, an asset that has played a crucial role in many of his fights.
Gran Torino’s Feats in Battle
Gran Torino’s strength isn’t merely speculation, as several instances of battle reveal exactly why this old man is the Symbol of Peace’s mentor. With his speed alone, Gran Torino was able to take out four members of the League of Villains, essentially debilitating their core members with one strike. Gran Torino’s agility and strength also led to Kurogiri’s arrest, a villain who was previously deemed impossible to capture due to his Warping quirk.
Gran Torino’s presence has proven to be detrimental to All For One on a few occasions, and his wisdom has even saved All Might’s life during one of his battles against All For One. Nomus are one of the greatest threats to world peace, with many Pro Heroes failing to counter these otherworldly beasts. However, Gran Torino has been witnessed taking down a Nomu with ease, showcasing the lethality of his speed.
Gran Torino’s “Jet” Quirk
The secret to Gran Torino’s strength lies in his Jet quirk, a meta-ability that grants him the power to hurl himself at immense speeds. With holes in his feet that can expel air at exponential speeds, Gran Torino has the power to fly short distances and take out opponents at lightning fast speeds.
Gran Torino’s speed is so impressive that opponents can’t even see him coming. Most enemies are knocked out before they can even see him coming. Jet’s speed further makes it impossible to hit Gran Torino with any attacks, since he can easily evade them with his untraceable speed. He was even able to dodge the attacks of a Nomu, which is an impressive feat considering how debilitating these artificial monsters can be.
A Mentor to the Strongest Heroes Of All Time
If Gran Torino’s own feats weren’t enough to depict the true extent of his power, mentoring the two strongest heroes of all time is surely enough to paint the full picture. Gran Torino never possessed One For All himself, yet he was able to teach the quirk and its intricate workings to both All Might and Deku.
My Hero Academia: How Strong Is Midnight?
Midnight managed to become one of My Hero Academia's top heroes thanks to her incredible skill and combat ability. So how strong is she?
This feat can easily be owed to Gran Torino’s intelligence, as he was quickly able to understand the mechanics of One For All. His quick-wittedness is exactly what led to the formation of the Symbol of Peace, meaning much of All Might and Deku’s success can be attributed to him.
Mentoring the Symbol of Peace
All Might’s status as the No.1 Pro Hero can be traced back to Gran Torino’s mentoring. After Nana’s death, Gran Torino took it upon himself to train the next bearer of One For All. Considering All Might’s current epithet of the Symbol of Peace, it seems that Gran Torino was certainly successful in mentoring Toshinori.
I know the world can be a better place!
All Might’s successful training directly alludes to Gran Torino’s strength, as he was able to keep up with One For All’s power. Moreover, All Might’s traumatic memories related to his training under Gran Torino also show the lengths he went to in order to refine Toshinori’s power.
Shaping One For All’s Legacy
Even after successfully mentoring Toshinori and turning him into the most powerful hero of all time, Gran Torino still couldn’t take the back seat. Despite being bogged down by his old age, Gran Torino was able to train One For All’s next generation.
His expertise in mentoring became apparent from Deku’s training, as Gran Torino was able to teach him the intricacies of One For All within mere days, something All Might failed to do in over a year. Shaping One For All’s Legacy for over three generations showcases exactly how powerful Gran Torino is, in terms of both physical prowess and mental wits.
