In what's been a pretty loaded fall 2025 line-up, no series has stood out as much as the eighth and final season of My Hero Academia. One of the most anticipated anime of the year, expectations for the new season were high, and Bones has been able to deliver week in and week out.
2025 has been a great year for anime, with some clear favorites out there for anime of the year consideration. Anime like Solo Leveling, Lord of Mysteries, and Takopi's Original Sin are all strong contenders to win the award, but IMDb has My Hero Academia standing out as the highest-rated anime of the year.
My Hero Academia's Final Season is Beating out Takopi's Original Sin
Every episode of My Hero Academia's final season has so far reached an IMDb rating of 9 or higher. That puts the season average at 9.5 as of the airing of Episode 7, "From Aizawa". That means that My Hero is currently beating out Takopi's Original Sin as the highest-rated series of the year, which earned an average rating of 9.4 over 6 episodes. Considering how popular the series is and how highly anticipated it was, it's no surprise to see My Hero Academia's final season do so well. There are still a few more episodes to go until the end of the season, so My Hero's lead over Takopi could diminish if future episodes don't perform as well.
Many fans aren't expecting the surprisingly short eighth season to be the last we see of the My Hero Academia anime. With Jump Festa right around the corner, some expect that a new announcement will be made for the series to close out the year. There's not enough source material left for another season (unless it's some anime-original content), but a movie could be on the table. If that happens, then this might go down as one of the best final seasons for an anime in a long time.
As for Takopi's Original Sin, this doesn't do anything to diminish the series' spectacular run. Based on the manga of the same name, the ONA aired during the summer 2025 season and had around half the episode count of a regular seasonal anime. Regardless, it emerged as a surprise hit and won over fans from around the world with its incredible story and characters. Airing after season 2 of Solo Leveling and going toe-to-toe with Lord of Mysteries, Takopi's Original Sin managed to be the highest-rated series for months before My Hero swept in.
- My Hero Academia: Final Season — 9.5
- Takopi's Original Sin — 9.4
- Lord of Mysteries — 9.1
- Solo Leveling Season 2 — 9.0
You can be sure that the above list most likely contains what will be crowned as the next anime of the year. Whether or not My Hero or Takopi end the year as the highest-rated series remains to be seen. But regardless, both have proven to be something special.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
