Summary

  • Various Quirks in My Hero Academia enhance speed, aiding heroes like Todoroki, Hawks, and Gran Torino.
  • Bakugo and Ida also exhibit unique uses of their Quirks to boost speed in battles.
  • Quirks like Fa Jin and Gearshift provide a sudden speed surge at a cost, showcasing versatile abilities.

While it's important for any Pro-Hero in My Hero Academia to possess a fine balance between offense and defense to deal with any villains that come their way, speed is also crucially important. Thankfully, several Quirks have been seen throughout the series that excel at boosting a character's overall mobility, allowing them to save a group of civilians from a dangerous villain in just a few seconds.

Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia: Ultra Age: The Final Fan Book offers a lot of interesting information for fans of the now-concluded manga.

On the other hand, the villains can also benefit from gaining a speed boost, primarily because it makes evading the heroes far easier after causing a heap of trouble on the streets. Throughout My Hero Academia, there have been a plethora of interesting and unique Quirk abilities that have been revealed. Still, when it comes to overall speed, these are the ones that stand above the rest.

8 Half-Cold Half-Hot

After Practicing How To Use His Quirk, Todoroki Managed to Reach Some Insane Speeds

  • First Appearance: Episode 5

As the name implies, Todoroki's Quirk is split up into both fire and ice. When he's looking to take down a tough opponent with a flashy attack, Todoroki will opt for using his father's flames, while his ice abilities are more suited for blocking incoming damage, but also, they can allow him to skate his way to the battlefield much faster than most of the other heroes.

While he uses his ice abilities quite often in the first few training arcs, it's when he works under his father, Endeavor, that the true speed potential of Half-Cold Half-Ice becomes realized. Todoroki's Quirk is known for being extremely versatile, capable of being used in a plethora of different ways, including to improve a person's overall speed.

7 Fierce Wings

Being Able To Move At Blistering Speeds Makes Hawks The Perfect Undercover Hero

  • First Appearance: Episode 67

When Hawks is introduced to the series during the Pro-Hero story arc, Endeavor explains that the plucky young hero managed to reach the #2 spot not only due to his immense popularity, but also his speed on the battlefield. When using his Fierce Wings, Hawks can soar through the sky at blistering speeds, firing off small feather projectiles as he goes to deal with anyone he sees as a threat to hero society.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes: 8 Weakest Quirks, Ranked

The Vigilantes series introduces a ton of new Quirk abilities, but these ones are a little lackluster in terms of overall strength and reliability.

When Endeavor was being attacked by the dangerous Hood Nomu, Hawks managed to reach him in no more than a few seconds, despite being a fair distance away from him. The speed at which Hawks can get in and out of situations makes him ideal for undercover missions where he can quickly execute a suspicious villain before fleeing the scene before anyone suspects a thing.

6 Jet

Moving Faster Than The Eye Can See Made Gran Torino A Feared Hero Back In The Day

  • First Appearance: Episode 27

By shooting air out from his soles, All Might's former mentor, Gran Torino, can move his body so fast that it's impossible to keep track of him in battle once he's all fired up. All Might has spoken many times about how fast Torino is due to his unique Quirk ability, making it easy for him to apprehend a group of villains in quick succession, alongside his partner Nana.

Even in the main story, where Torino is a little older, he's still more than capable of moving his body at incredible speeds, which Midoriya soon comes to find out after he meets his new teacher and is ultimately embarrassed by him after Torino shows off his lightning-fast attacks.

5 Explosion

Bakugo Has Found Some Pretty Creative Ways To Use His Quirk To Enhance His Speed

  • First Appearance: Episode 1

While Bakugo can usually be found using his deadly Explosion Quirk for offense, he's also been able to utilize its earth-shattering power to grant him a little extra mobility, too. Early in the series, Bakugo would fire out fiery explosions behind him to push him forward, but the primary reason he's managed to make it so far up this list is because of his Quirk Awakening, and more specifically, his Cluster ability.

With his body constantly generating explosions, Bakugo can propel his body across the battlefield in barely any time at all, to the point where he was even able to keep up with Shigaraki when he was at his strongest during the final war. Bakugo just goes to show that, while a Quirk may seem ideal for serving a single purpose initially, like offense or defense, it can always be used in other ways too when put in enough practice.

4 Fa Jin

By Powering Up Their Limbs, The User Of Fa Jin Can Gain A Sudden Surge In Speed

  • First Appearance: Episode 134

After Midoriya acquires the Quirks of the previous One For All users, one ability that he ends up heavily depending on is Fa Jin. By powering up a specific part of his body, Midoriya is able to store up energy, which can then be unleashed to grant him a burst of power and speed. In his fight with Lady Nagant, Midoriya used this to become even faster than her bullets, allowing him to pull off his deadly Faux 100% attack to take her down for good.

This is a Quirk which is a little tricky to use, but in the right hands, it can be great for avoiding enemy attacks, but also for dishing out damage by catching a villain off-guard when they least expect it. Though it's only shown off in small doses throughout the story, Fa Jin has still proven itself to be one of the fastest abilities in the entire series.

3 Engine

Ida Is Ready To Save Anyone In Need With His Speed-Based Quirk Ability

  • First Appearance: Episode 3

Keeping up with Ida is far from an easy task, considering the guy has engines strapped to his legs to boost his acceleration whenever he starts moving. However, while Ida is already extremely quick on his feet at the beginning of the series, it would be in the final war that he can demonstrate just how insanely fast he truly is when using Engine to its full potential.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes - 7 Things Koichi Can Do That Deku Can't

For various reasons, there are just certain things that Koichi can do that Deku can't in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.

1

A huge boost to Ida's speed came from his Recipro Turbo upgrade, which he would uncover later in the story and make good use of when hunting down criminals. During the final war, Ida was able to get Todoroki in and out of the action in the blink of an eye, and it's all thanks to his Engine Quirk.

2 Gearshift

Gearshift Can Allow Its User To Move At Mind-Bending Speeds When Activated

  • First Appearance: Episode 151

Gearshift is a Quirk which, as Koda explains to Midoriya after he receives it, should always be kept as a last resort. This is because the ability itself deals a significant amount of damage to the person using it, which gives an idea of just how absurdly strong it is. By breaking the laws of physics, Gearshift propels the user forward at immense speed, giving them an opportunity to land a devastating hit that nobody has any chance of defending from.

As mentioned previously, though, this ability still comes at a heavy cost, since Midoriya can't use it more than once in the space of a few minutes, unless he's willing to tear his body apart, which he admittedly always seems more than happy to do. Gearshift would be a crucially important tool in Midoriya's arsenal during his bout with Shigaraki, allowing him to outmaneuver the powerful villain to whittle him down bit by bit.

1 One For All

  • First Appearance: Episode 1

One For All is a rather unusual Quirk in terms of what it offers the user. On the one hand, it's clear that All Might and Midoriya receive a drastic power boost, but All Might has also demonstrated that it can drastically bolster a person's speed, too. In the flashback sequence with All Might and Nighteye, the #1 hero was shown to be flying around the entire country in mere seconds so that he could solve any criminal activity before it ended up getting out of control.

When All Might faces All For One early on in the series, the latter of the two even mocks All Might for being slower than he once was, despite him still being by far the quickest of all the Pro Heroes. Horikoshi himself revealed in a fanbook that, in his prime, All Might was able to move at Mach 10 speed, which just goes to show how much of a strength and speed boost One For All can provide for its users who learn to master it.
