In any action anime, especially superhero anime like My Hero Academia, it's the protagonist's job to defeat evil and save the day. Sure enough, Izuku Midoriya/Deku has triumphed over powerful villains such as Muscular, Overhaul, and even Tomura Shigaraki himself. Japan is safe once again because of Deku's actions, yet Deku can't be everywhere at once. It often falls to other heroes to shield their nation from harm in the streets.
Of course, a wide variety of minor villains were defeated or even killed without Deku getting involved, so fans care most about the major villains who were taken down in Deku's absence. Most of them met their end at the hands of other pro heroes or UA students, and amusingly, a few were clobbered by other villains. Once in a while, the bad guys will do Deku's job for him, though it's not something Deku should get used to.
Best Female Characters In My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia is packed with iconic female characters, and that includes both heroes and villains. Here are the best MHA girls.
Twice Met His End When Hawks Used Lethal Force
Quirk: Double
The lovable villain Twice was one of the most sympathetic members of the League of Villains as a Deadpool-like antagonist with a painful backstory. Twice played a supporting role in the League's adventures until the final war launched, which was where he met his end. On that battlefield, quite a few villains big and small were defeated or captured. Or in Twice's case, killed.
It was an emotionally complex and controversial scene when Hawks the hero used his Fierce Wings Quirk with lethal force while dueling Twice. To Twice's shock, Hawks went for the kill, and Twice was powerless to stop him. It's not something Deku would have done, and most likely, not even Endeavor would have gone that far. Yet Hawks did, giving him a mixed legacy in the eyes of My Hero Academia fans.
Hood's Defeat Marked the Rise of Endeavor as the #1 Hero
Quirk: Muscle Augmentation
It's true the Hood Nomu was little more than a plot device and was treated as such, though this character still had some significance. At the very least, Hood's vast power was proof of how far the Nomu concept could be pushed, with Dr. Garaki crafting horrific critters who can compete with the top 10 pro heroes. That helped reinforce the sense of constant danger in the wake of All Might's retirement.
Above all, Hood was Endeavor's trial by fire at the end of My Hero Academia's fourth anime season. Until then, Endeavor hadn't been seriously challenge or pushed, so Hood stepped up. For a terrifying moment, it seemed Endeavor had lost to this lab-grown abomination, but then he rallied and went Plus Ultra. For the first time, Endeavor scored a glorious victory and started convincing viewers to support him as the new #1 hero.
Kurogiri Faded Away During the Final Battle Against All For One
Quirk: Warp Gate
Seeing how Kurogiri played a strictly supporting role in the League of Villains, he wasn't in much danger of facing the likes of Deku or All Might in battle. It was Kurogiri's job to stay back and teleport his allies to and from the battlefield, such as at USJ and during the forest training camp raid. Later, Kurogiri got himself captured, and then he faced his end while the final war raged.
The Best Shonen Anime Series of Every Year of the 2010s
The 2010s were a great time to be an anime fan. These stand out as the best shonen series from that era.
Deku had no time to fight Kurogiri, nor did he need to try. The heroes needed the captive Kurogiri's power to control the field of battle, while Deku was busy challenging Tomura Shigaraki. Kurogiri's arc concluded because of sheer strain, with him overusing his Warp Gate talents while supporting the pro heroes against All For One. It didn't help how Bakugo's firepower dispersed Kurogiri's fading body even faster.
Gigantomachia Was Blown Apart When All For One Turned on Him
Quirk: Gigantification
The lumbering Gigantomachia was difficult to even capture, let alone properly defeat in battle, but the pro heroes tried it anyway. Deku hardly ever saw this oversized villain, so it fell to the likes of Gran Torino and the rest of class 1-A to fight this beast. Deku was present when UA's students took on Gigantomachia, though credit mostly goes to students like Momo Yaoyorozu.
Gigantomachia escaped capture and joined the final war, but by then, his time was up. Worse yet, Gigantomachia paid the price for turning against his former master, All For One. Without hesitation, the symbol of evil used powerful ranged attacks to destroy Gigantomachia once and for all. It was another example of how All For One has disposable pawns, not true friends, and no one is safe from his Quirk-based wrath.
Dabi Was Defeated on Multiple Levels When His Family Opposed Him
Quirk: Blueflame
Dabi appeared relatively early in My Hero Academia alongside Himiko Toga as a mysterious villain with a Quirk of blue flames. For a time, Dabi was content to just be some cool villain who let his actions do the talking, but then the truth came to light. Dabi outed himself as Toya Todoroki, which put him on a collision course with his younger brother Shoto and their father, Endeavor. In fact, the entire Todoroki family came together to stop the wayward Toya.
Dabi was ready to sacrifice everything to destroy the hero world that Shoto and Endeavor fought for, all while spiting his loving family. In so doing, Dabi fell to heartbreaking depths as a villain, but not all was lost. After the Todorokis used their combined talents to pacify Dabi, that villain ended up detained in critical condition. In that fragile state, Toya Todoroki finally took his first modest step toward redemption, no thanks to Deku. Deku can redeem the likes of Gentle Criminal and La Brava, but saving Toya's heart is a family affair.
Himiko Toga Gave Her Own Life to Repay Ochaco's Kindness
Quirk: Transform
Deku faced Himiko Toga on the field of battle more than once, which was no coincidence since Himiko was simply obsessed with him. However, the plot was more interested in mingling Himiko's arc with that of Ochaco Uraraka, with those girls being mirrors of each other. It was Ochaco who brought out both the best and worst in Himiko, as shown late in My Hero Academia's 7th anime season.
My Hero Academia: Will Deku Show Up in Vigilantes?
Izuku Midoriya once acted as a vigilante, but is he going to appear in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes?
Ochaco didn't need Deku's support to rescue the lost, tearful girl trapped inside Himiko's villainous persona. Following Deku's example as a symbol of hope, Ochaco used her own "talk jutsu" to defeat the villain and save the girl inside. It hit much harder than Deku's verbal redemption for Gentle Criminal, and it was the reason Himiko felt inspired enough to save Ochaco's life at the cost of her own.
Mr. Compress Couldn't Escape When the Villains Lost the Final War
Quirk: Compress
A number of supporting villains in both the League of Villains and Paranormal Liberation Front never suffered defeat at Deku's hands, though some did cross paths with My Hero Academia's star. One example is the showman villain Mr. Compress, who horrified Deku as he used his Compress Quirk to capture Katsuki Bakugo. The Compress Quirk, combined with Warp Gate, ensured Deku had no chance to stop Bakugo's abduction.
Mr. Compress was seen fighting the police during the Shie Hassaikai Arc, and then he returned for the final war. At the time, Deku had his hands full with the likes of Lady Nagant and Tomura, so One For All's wrath never turned on Mr. Compress. Instead, Mr. Compress's arc came to a quiet end as he and other villains ended up captured as the hostilities died down.
Re-Destro Couldn't Handle the Power of Tomura's Awakened Decay Quirk
Quirk: Stress
Along with a few other members of the former Meta Liberation Army, Re-Destro is one of only a few notable villains to be defeated by another villain. Curious died when she took on Himiko, and Geten lost a Quirk-heavy duel with Dabi, while Re-Destro tried in vain to defeat Tomura. They were equals as leaders of villain groups, and at first, Re-Destro had the upper hand thanks to his Stress Quirk. Then, Tomura turned the tables with his Quirk awakening.
That arc was a chance for the villains to enjoy protagonist-style power-ups, with Twice, Himiko, and Tomura all awakening their Quirks in the heat of battle. Re-Destro stood little chance when Decay went haywire on a massive scale, and Re-Destro was actually lucky to survive at all. Tomura showed mercy, though, and the two villains later teamed up to form the enormous Paranormal Liberation Front.
