My Hero Academia ended recently and it certainly surprised many fans when it finally concluded, because, while the conclusion of the series was certainly not bad, it ended on a rather strange note that no fan would have guessed at the beginning of the series. While many readers are simply glad that all the heroes got a happy ending, more or less, some others are not too fond of the ending as it differs too much from what the author set up at the beginning of the series.

Horikoshi Wanted Deku To Become The Greatest Hero
When My Hero Academia began, the series opened on a very strong and powerful note. Fans were told that humans were not born equal. However, at the same time, anyone could become a Hero. This was a message from Horikoshi. It is safe to say when it comes to the general public becoming a Hero, Horikoshi has, more or less, stayed true to his vision from early My Hero Academia. This is because the civilians certainly helped a lot in the final war of the series, and that is precisely why Hawks decided to introduce them into the billboard rankings as well. This was a very brave move in the right direction for the author, however, it was one that fans were simply told about and not seen in action.
In regards to how society was at the beginning of My Hero Academia, nothing really changed at the end that fans saw. They were simply told about how society had changed, and that was all. Nothing was actually put into practice in the manga, and that was certainly not the ideal way to go about it. In many ways, this segment of the story was quite rushed. However, it would be disingenuous to say that this is something that Horikoshi changed. Perhaps, due to his health issues, or other problems, he could not incorporate this into weekly chapters anymore.
This is not the only thing that has left the fans surprised about the ending of My Hero Academia. Deku clearly mentions at the beginning of the story that he became the greatest hero and essentially, My Hero Academia was supposed to be a telling of how he accomplished that. Fans were expecting Deku to be the greatest hero and, of course, with that, surpass the legacy of All Might come the end of the story. Much to the surprise of the fans, Deku did not accomplish that at the end of his series. Of course, he did save Japan and defeated Shigaraki, but that might not be enough to see him be the greatest Hero.
This is especially true when Deku ended up losing his quirk following the battle against Shigaraki and wasn't even qualified to be called the Hero anymore. He ended up taking the role of a teacher at UA for 8 years, and even lost contact with most of his friends due to how busy life got. It is safe to say that this was likely not the vision that the author had for Deku at the beginning of the story, and, in many ways, this end was painful for the fans to watch for the protagonist of the series. At the same time, the fact that he had to give up One For All and remain Quirkless was also not ideal for the fans. If Deku was the greatest hero at the end of the series, surely, he should have powers befitting that. Giving up the greatest asset that he trained relentlessly for over the years, which actually happened off-screen, is certainly not acceptable.
The Quirk Singularity Theory
The Author Did Not Incorporate The Most Exciting Idea Into The Ending
The handling of Deku's end was certainly not the only thing that fans were perplexed by at the end of My Hero Academia. The author set up quite easily one of the most exciting plot points at the beginning of the story with the Quirk Singularity Theory. Essentially, the man behind it, Dr Kyudai Garaki, suggested that Quirks get stronger with each passing generation.
As Quirks grow stronger, the rate at which they grow is rapidly increasing as well. This means that while humans are able to adapt to the stronger quirks right now, with time, Quirks will grow at a faster rate, and humans will simply not be able to keep up. According to the theory, there will come a point when humans simply cannot keep up anymore and be overwhelmed by these Quirks. When that happens, Dr Kyudai suggests that the world will be overwhelmed and human civilization, as we know it, will be utterly destroyed. This is essentially Quirk Doomsday, which he implied would happen at some point.
My Hero Academia: The Abandoned Plotlines At The End Of The Story, Explained
MHA recently ended with chapter 430. There are many abandoned plotlines that the story left behind.
This plot point, when introduced into the story, brought excitement to the fans because it made for an absolutely incredible final battle for the story. However, much to the dismay of the fans, this plot point was never actually brought up at the end. This theory was simply introduced for absolutely no reason. The only time it was hinted at was when Shigaraki was seen evolving in the war at an incredibly drastic rate. But, Shigaraki died, and with that, the importance of the Quirk Singularity Theory died as well.

Fans Feel As If The Story Is Unfinished At The End
At the end of My Hero Academia, Deku essentially killed a victim, in Shigaraki, and gave up on the power of One For All. He graduated and became a teacher for 8 years, losing contact with most of his friends for a significant period of time. Eventually, Deku was given an armor made by All Might's friends in the US, with help from Hatsume. The armor was financed by Bakugo for the most part, while other Heroes helped as well. Deku then got his chance to become a hero once again and take to the skies. While this ending was perfect, it doesn't resonate with what the author set up at the beginning of the story. The answer to whether the author changed his ending or not is likely yes. But, this should not surprise the fans.

There are many authors that simply pan out their story as they go. This is not necessarily a bad thing. There are two types of writers. There are writers who simply have their endpoints prepared before they start writing, and then they simply get to those endpoints using various techniques, crafting exciting stories around them, and then there are writers who simply plant the seed for certain things and then watch their plant grow and see where it takes them. Both techniques are incredibly exciting and can deliver some of the best stories. In the case of Horikoshi, it appears that he set up the first technique, but ended up taking the latter approach, which resulted in an ending that fans got very confused by.
Regardless, it would not be fair to say that the ending was all bad. My Hero Academia is a beloved story still and it did many things right. But, there are certain things that could have been handled better in the story, and fans hope that a sequel can go on to fix this.
