The exceptionally powerful Quirk One For All holds numerous Quirks, which have, over the generations, stockpiled power and have grown so powerful that one could only be used as a last resort. Kudo is the second user within One For All, and despite initially having a weak Quirk, Gearshift and One For All can now warp even reality.
Although this power may seem like the best Quirk, as it was left for last, it does come with a major setback, which can be devastating for the user if misused. But what makes this Deku’s strongest Quirk and Vestige in My Hero Academia?
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ First Episode Proves That Anyone Can Be a Hero
The MHA: Vigilantes spin-off is finally here, giving heroism a new look with three new protagonists.
Which of the Vestiges is the Strongest?
Kudo’s Quirk Has the Most Drawback and Can Warp Reality
In My Hero Academia, Midoriya Izuku is bestowed a powerful Quirk that is first believed to be just a stockpile of a significant amount of power, giving him the ability to enhance his strength and speed. However, it was soon found that this Quirk: One For All, which has been passed down through the generations, also holds all the Vestiges and their Quirks within it.
With that said, Deku is the ninth and final user of One For All, but who is the strongest Vestige within said Quirk? The Quirk began with Shigaraki Yoichi, All For One’s younger brother, and by chance, it was and can be transferred to its new host through ingestion or a drop of blood. As One For All was a stockpiling Quirk mixed with a transference Quirk, the result of the Quirks within it would undoubtedly grow stronger with time.
As One For All grew in strength, so too did all of our Meta Abilities within it. As a result… mine evolved into a particularly unique power.
With that said, we first need a process of elimination in no particular order. Which of the Vestiges could be deemed the strongest based on their Quirks and abilities? There are six Quirks within One For All that Deku has access to, all of which Deku has used in combination to strengthen the said Quirk. First and foremost is Shimura Nana’s Float Quirk. While the seventh user's Quirk is beneficial in assisting Deku in mid-air battles, it ultimately does not benefit him in terms of strength. Up next are Smokescreen and Danger Sense. These Quirks are best suited for stealth and detecting any known threats within the vicinity.
My Hero Academia: 7 Things Deku Can Do That All Might Can't
Although All Might may be Deku's idol, the two share stark differences in a few key areas.
Blackwhip was among the initial Quirks that Deku utilized, playing a crucial role in his combat approach. It enables him to maintain distance from Shigaraki Tomura’s Decay Quirk while being combined with various other techniques. It has been employed with Fa Jin, which can store kinetic energy through repeated motions. Additionally, All Might had yet to become a Vestige, and even if he had been, he too was born without a Quirk, relying on One For All for his power, ultimately making One For All his strongest Quirk.

As mentioned above, the Quirks within One For All, including Gearshift, the second user's Quirk, had grown alongside One For All. Initially, the Meta Ability Gearshift was weak, as Kudo has primarily used this ability to control the speed and trajectory of his bullets. Although Kudo had significant control over this ability, even being able to use it while being choked to death by All For One, it was ultimately useless against him, barely able to make a scratch and thus being called a “lackluster peashooter.”
- Transmission: Affecting the opponent with each punch, the attack speed increases.
- Overdrive: With Fa Jin, power and speed will increase, resulting in 120% of One For All usage.
- Detroit Smash Quintuple: Deku uses Gearshift on himself, landing several swift punches.
However, due to Quirk's growing strength, it has thus broadened its scope, allowing the user to apply it to more diverse targets, with its functions right down to the cellular level. In Chapter 369, it is also said that this combination of Gearshift with One For All can warp the very laws that govern reality, making this Quirk exceptionally powerful as it “adjusts the speed without abiding by the laws of inertia.”
My Hero Academia: Every Character Who Used Rewind
Eri's Rewind ability is one of the most powerful in all of My Hero Academia, and as a result, it's been used by several key characters.
However, although Gearshift is exceptionally powerful, it also comes with its own setbacks and, thus, should also be used as a last resort. When Deku first uses this ability with Fa Jin to create the Overdrive Ultimate Move, he boosts his speed and power to attack Tomura. As mentioned, although this ability is exceptionally powerful, the blowbacks of using it are equally challenging. After using Gearshift, Deku has to defeat Tomura within five minutes of using the Quirk; this is because if the Quirk is used for too long without rest, the body will not be able to receive oxygen. With that said, if the user of this Quirk exceeds its use, the repercussions will be far greater.
... Did you attempt to use my Meta Ability? I thought I told you… that was meant to be your last resort.
Although Deku is aware of the drawbacks of this Quirk, in a desperate moment to save All Might, he uses it once again to boost Bakugo Katsuki’s acceleration to All For One, despite Kudo’s warnings of the Quirk. While this Quirk can warp reality itself, if used unchecked, it will leave the user immobilized; however, despite the circumstances, Deku continued to push on, as the battle nears its climax.
Gearshift is undeniably a great Quirk in Deku’s arsenal, but its setbacks are so great that if Deku’s cells do not rest, his body will cease functioning as it cannot get oxygen. Despite the warnings, during the battle with Tomura, Kudo urges Deku to continue the battle and find the willpower to keep fighting, as he recognizes the struggles within All For One and Shigaraki. However, Gearshift is ultimately the first of Deku’s Quirks to be transferred to All For One.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
