My Hero Academia has been a rollercoaster ride, being one of the most popular shonen anime of the modern day. Created by Kohei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia took a fresh perspective on the Western superhero theme and created a creative and engaging universe. Deku's story, from a quirkless hopeful to the world's number one hero, has been a memorable ride, with dozens of other characters adding depth to the story and weight to the journey.

As My Hero Academia's manga comes to a close and the final season slowly approaches, many fans have been wondering what's next for My Hero Academia. With Vigilantes being the first spin-off of the series, there is a laundry list of other characters who could also serve as a main protagonist. Here are some characters who could lead their own series.

Froppy

The Coastal Adventures Of The Best Frog Girl

  • First Appearance: Episode 5
  • Ranking: 34th

From the moment Tsuyu Asui made her first appearance in My Hero Academia, she became a fan favorite due to her adorable design and dedicated personality. Froppy, the aquatic hero, always maintains a level head in a pinch, keeping her wits about her and resorting to pristine tactics to save the day.

My Hero Academia is made up of a dynamic cast of characters. Here's what you need to know about every major player.

Froppy's character played a strong supporting role to the main focus of My Hero Academia's story, being the voice of reason to the group and the mother hen to Uraraka. A spin-off series focusing on Froppy's pro-hero career could capture a more lighthearted tone of the My Hero Academia universe.

Principal Nezu

The Mind Behind UA Academy

  • First Appearance: Episode 4
  • Ranking: Unranked

Principal Nezu is a character who did not receive an abundance of screen time in My Hero Academia, but was a pivotal character whose presence was nonetheless felt. Nezu is in charge and oversees operations at UA Academy, maintaining the quality and experience of both its students and its teachers. Nezu's quirk, High Specs, grants him enhanced intelligence, making him a brilliant strategist as shown during the fight against Shiguraki. Principal Nezu's anamorphic design, eccentric personality, and focus on the everyday life of UA administrators would be an excellent slice-of-life/action series.

Mei Hatsume

The Forge That Keeps Heroes On Their Feet

  • First Appearance: Episode 15
  • Ranking: Unranked

Mei Hatsume was a budding engineer who was responsible for creating the hero tools for the budding heroes of UA Academy. While not a main cast character, she played a vital role in the final fight, helping transform the UA Academy into a fortress. Mei is a gearhead with a pristine focus on learning how things work. While her personality can be abrasive, many fans consider her a strong representation of individuals with autistic traits. With the My Hero Academia manga wrapping up, a series focusing on Mei post time skip as the head of Lightly Labs would make an interesting and unique take on her story.

Nighthide

The Protégé of Eraser Head

  • First Appearance: Episode 15
  • Ranking: Unranked

Hitoshi Shinso debuted as a suedo antagonist to Deku during the summer festival tournament. His character made a lasting impression with his decree to become a hero even when his Brianwashing quirk was poorly suited for the role. While Shinso's first appearance ended in defeat, he reemerged as the protégé of the Eraser hero, Shota Aizawa. Taking up the unique weapon of his teacher and finding a way to make his quirk useful to his allies. Shinso began a new path with unlimited potential. A series focusing on the struggles of his own hero's journey could rival Deku's story, depending on the scale.

Red Riot

The Guardian Of Peace

  • First Appearance: Episode 5
  • Ranking: 12th

Red Riot began as an early fan favorite among anime fans worldwide, but won the hearts of millions after his courageous performance while fighting alongside Fat Gums, putting his life on the line to protect his comrades. Red Riot is one of the most kind-hearted and energetic characters in the series and would make a phenomenal main protagonist, exploring his childhood and his future as the number twelve hero post time skip. Perhaps a story further down the line, placing Red Riot in an All Might-style role as a teacher for the next generation, could also be a very entertaining story to tell.

Lemillion

The Magnificent Number One Hero

  • First Appearance: Episode 62
  • Ranking: 1st

Lemillion is the perfect candidate for the main protagonist of a My Hero Academia spin-off series or continuation. Destined to be tremendous and groomed to be All-Might's successor, Lemillion was more than just a Chosen One troupe. Devoting his entire life to becoming a hero that could live up to the expectations of All Might was only half of Lemillion's drive.

My Hero Academia: 13 Characters With The Saddest Backstories

When it comes to sad and tragic backstories in My Hero Academia, these characters in the anime series have had it the worst.

Genuinely desiring to be the hero of the world, to bring smiles to people, and snuff out evil, Lemillion became a fantastic character, with or without his work. A series focusing on him as the new number one hero and possibly the other members of the Big Three would be a series all fans tune in to watch.

Hawks

The Complex Hero Turned Vigilante?

  • First Appearance: Episode 87
  • Ranking: Formerly 2nd

Hawks played an essential component to the latter half of the plot of My Hero Academia. Debuting as the sidekick to Endeavor in his new position as number one hero, Hawks displayed undying loyalty and unyielding support.

Though they are both powerful heroes, Bakugo has traits that give him an advantage.

However, Hawks was not simply Endeavor's partner, but a secret operative for the Hero Association, who sought to end the threat of the League of Villains before it gained momentum. Hawks' character was incredibly complex, and a series focusing on exploring his past further or perhaps his future without a quirk would be worth watching.

All Might

The Past Of The Symbol Of Peace

  • First Appearance: Episode 1
  • Ranking: Formerly 1st

All Might is the key figure throughout the entire My Hero Academia series who holds a heavy presence even after losing his hero status. As the fabled symbol of peace, All Might ended the Quirk War and ushered in a new era almost single-handedly. Throughout the series and films, All Might's past is explored lightly; however, there is a wealth of untapped potential for thoroughly exploring All Might's rise and fall, which would add significant weight to the present series. All Might is still the most interesting character in the series, and watching him learn and evolve into the Symbol of Peace would be a fantastic experience.
