The Best War Games can exclusively share the first official trailer for My Hero Academia: Battlegrounds. Aside from showcasing its action-packed gameplay, the video also offers some developer commentary on how this Roblox experience came to be.
Created by Los Angeles-based Gamefam in partnership with Crunchyroll and Toho, the first official My Hero Academia game for Roblox was originally announced in December 2023. It's been in beta testing ever since. While some Roblox YouTubers had previously shared limited footage from this ongoing test, My Hero Academia: Battlegrounds was still waiting for an official gameplay reveal until today.
Crunchyroll has now shared the first MHA: Battlegrounds trailer, which The Best War Games can exclusively reveal. The 88-second clip shows Roblox variants of several My Hero Academia characters, including Izuku "Deku" Midoriya, Ochaco "Uravity" Uraraka, and Tenya "Turbo Hero: Ingenium" Ida. MHA: Battlegrounds players will be able to unlock them using a variety of means, like completing quests or purchasing them outright with Robux.
What Will 'My Hero Academia: Battlegrounds' Play Like?
The game itself is envisioned as a battling-focused experience with some light exploration and quests. Completing storylines, defeating enemies, and casting abilities will net players XP, used to level up and unlock things like new powers and additional skill slots. Ultimate attacks are another category of unlocks that MHA: Battlegrounds will support, and they unsurprisingly seem to be based on the sizable gallery of My Hero Academia finishing moves.
My Hero Academia: Battlegrounds will also embrace Roblox character customization as a big part of its gameplay loop, offering players plenty of unique cosmetics for personalizing their digital avatars. Its costumes will be unlockable through character mastery levels, as well as purchasable. Additionally, the game promises to feature a number of well-known locations from the My Hero Academia franchise, including U.A. High School, Ground Beta, and Musutafu. Carefully exploring these environments will be a prerequisite for finding UA chests, which can be destroyed for "surprise rewards."
The first My Hero Academia: Battlegrounds trailer also includes some behind-the-scenes commentary from Gamefam CEO Joseph Ferencz, Senior Producer Jay Sobel, and Producer Anna Takahashi. Among other things, the studio's developers confirmed that the new Roblox experience will feature custom combos, as well as ranked PvP battles for competitive-minded players.
