This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia.
My Hero Academia has, over the years, become an unforgettable anime series loved by millions all around the world. My Hero Academia’s source material, which is its manga, ended last year, and the anime is following suit now in 2025 by adapting whatever is left into My Hero Academia’s Final Season. Once My Hero Academia Season 8 is done, fans will find themselves in a tough spot with very little content to look forward to. While there’s the Vigilantes anime Season 2 to look forward to, it isn’t the only project confirmed in the works, thankfully.
My Hero Academia Will Soon Be Dethroned By A New Superhero Anime
A new superhero anime is on the rise, and it could compete with MHA.
As many fans might have already heard, Netflix is working on an MHA live-action movie. This movie won’t come out anytime soon, but they’re at the stage of writing the scripts, and some fans are definitely excited for what’s to come, despite the bad reputation of live-action.
My Hero Academia Season 8 Will Mark The End Of The Story
- The Anime Will End, But A Live-Action Movie Is In The Works
- Netflix is Currently Writing the Script for the Movie
My Hero Academia’s Season 8 just started airing recently, and it’s easy to say that the fans are very impressed by everything Studio Bones has been delivering, from incredible art to fluid animation. MHA Season 8 is, however, very short and is almost at its midpoint already. Fans are definitely worried about the future of the franchise, which doesn’t seem to have much in store, apart from the spin-off Vigilantes.
Kohei Horikoshi Recommends The New My Hero Academia Replacement To Fans
MHA has a new replacement recommended by Horikoshi - and it might be Shonen Jump's next big hit.
Recently though, Netflix made a hopeful statement about a forgotten MHA project, and that is the MHA live-action movie. This movie was announced seven years ago, and now, finally, there is more work being done on this project. It's even been confirmed that the script for the movie is being worked on.
“I’m in the middle of writing it right now, so we’ve not gotten to the casting portion of it,” — Jason Fuchs
This is definitely great news for the fans and could be big for a full-fledged MHA live-action adaptation in the future, similarly to what’s going on with One Piece right now.
When Will the My Hero Academia Live-Action Movie Come Out?
- No Release Date Has Been Given Yet
- Production Is Still In Very Early Stages
Hate it or love it, a live-action MHA might be one of the only projects fans of the series will be able to look forward to in the coming years. Live-action anime series have a bad reputation, but Netflix has shown it doesn’t have to be all that bad with the recent One Piece live-action, which, although not perfect, isn't all bad.
“There’s no treatment, there’s no outline, there’s no scenes, there’s no nothing that Kōhei doesn’t give notes on, react to [with] thumbs up, thumbs down. That makes me feel really confident that we’re gonna deliver something that fans, like myself, feel great about. You want to do something that feels authentic to the material. You want to do something that fans feel respects the canon and the original, but also find an access point for people who’ve never read [the manga], who’ve never seen the first films.” — Jason Fuchs
Either way, with the My Hero Academia movie project having been announced seven years ago, fans hope it comes out soon, but the truth is, it'll likely still take quite a while. The project is still in very early stages. The script is being written right now, and the actors haven’t even been cast yet.
This could take, at the very least, two years or maybe even more, and that is if there are no delays and issues in production. Fans should definitely not expect much from the project until 2027, at the very least.
The My Hero Academia manga was concluded. The story features 431 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus. When it comes to the anime, this series is still awaiting its final season, which will be released later this year. The series can be watched on Crunchyroll.
