My Adventures With Superman has been an interesting addition to DC’s offerings at an interesting time in the restructuring process that’s been in progress for years, and now fans of the show can rest easy as the series lead gives an update on production.

My Adventures With Superman has been one of DC’s more successful projects since the downfall of the DCEU Snyderverse, standing alongside many other animated shows and films that have been the main feature of the franchise in the interim period between the old guard and the new DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran. The show was pitched as a light-hearted, anime inspired take on the titular character, and slated for a 2023 release. Superman is one of DC’s most popular and visible characters, and a radical reinterpretation of the character, even more divergent than Joker or The Batman was a risky move at the time. However, fans were pleasantly surprised by the new, anime inspired direction working out fairly well.

With two seasons in the rearview, many fans believe that My Adventures With Superman is one of the best Superman TV shows, going up against some strong competition to really stand out as a modern, inspired take on the character and the world he lives in. Now, fans can rest assured that they won’t have to wait forever for another season of the show. Jack Quaid, the voice behind the show’s Clark Kent, would take to his Instagram page to post a collection of pictures at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Cartoon Network recording studio with the caption“💥NOW RECORDING🎙️ #myadventureswithsuperman #season3,“ officially signaling the start of his voice recording sessions for the lead role in season three. With this, fans can hold out hope that the next season of the show will hit streaming in a timely manner, similar to the second season’s quick release in July 2024, less than a year after the premiere of season one.

While the show benefits a lot from its unique take on the Man of Steel and the DC universe in general, the lack of basis in the comics makes for very flimsy staying power. While My Adventures With Superman is a more light-hearted take on its titular premise, it’s not an out and out comedy like Harley Quinn; there’s a desire to take it seriously amongst those that enjoy it. Instead, the anime-inspired aesthetic has seemingly barred the project from taking more substantial influence from the comics. Granted, many of the greatest stories that have been told with the character don’t fit the vibe of My Adventures With Superman, but that’s become much less of an issue as more and more stories come out. DC Comics still puts out great Superman stories in modern times, and there’s a lot to draw from for even more season of My Adventures with Superman, despite its more casual tone and feel. While it’s still up in the air what fans will get in the upcoming third installment, there’s sure to be more of the same unique spin that’s made the show so fun up to this point.

In the same way that Superman: The Animated Series isn’t as fondly remembered as Batman’s, My Adventures With Superman seems likely to be well received and quickly forgotten since it isn’t so much introducing new fans to the character and going over the comics’ greatest hits. While there’s a lot of novelty and fun to be had, the show doesn’t feel quite as weighty an undertaking as a Batman: Caped Crusader or Creature Commandos. Whether or not this trend will change at any point or fans will embrace this new canon on its own merits remains to be seen.
