Crossover fighting game MultiVersus has enjoyed a great deal of success in its open beta, attracting over 10 million players before its proper launch. Now MultiVersus is kicking off Season 1 with a host of new content and balance changes for fans to check out. One of the main ways that developer Player First Games will be able to keep MultiVersus fans playing the game is by adding new characters, and there will be at least four released for the game before Season 1 is over.

Player First Games has confirmed two more new characters for MultiVersus Season 1, though they lack release dates at the time of this writing. At some point later in the season, MultiVersus fans can check out Black Adam from DC Comics and Stripe from Gremlins. Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty is also going to come to the MultiVersus roster at some point later this season, though Rick's grandson Morty Smith will be playable much sooner.

So far, Morty is the only new MultiVersus Season 1 character with an actual release date at the time of this writing. MultiVersus fans can look forward to playing as Morty starting August 23, so just a week from the Season 1 launch date. Like the rest of the MultiVersus roster, Morty is bringing his own unique move set, cosmetics, emotes, and more to the table, so there should be plenty for Rick and Morty fans to check out come August 23.

MultiVersus Season 1 New Characters

  • Morty Smith - August 23
  • Rick Sanchez - TBA
  • Black Adam - TBA
  • Stripe - TBA

MultiVersus Season 1 is bringing more cosmetics and unlockable content in general, as it is includes the Season 1 Battle Pass. Whereas the MultiVersus open beta Battle Pass was only 15 tiers, the Season 1 Battle Pass is a whopping 50 tiers, with unique rewards like a Robin outfit for LeBron James and a Space Jam costume for Taz.

Something that may be disappointing to MultiVersus fans, though, is that Season 1 is launching without all the content planned for it. While many expected to wait for all the new characters, there were those who were anticipating the addition of new game modes like Arcade and Ranked. Unfortunately, MultiVersus Ranked and Arcade modes will not be added with the Season 1 update and in fact, have no release dates at the time of this writing.

Regardless, MultiVersus Season 1 should have a steady stream of content for fighting game fans to check out, and with four new characters to look forward to, the inaugural season should be plenty exciting from start to finish.

MultiVersus is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
