- With potential new characters and stages on the horizon, the game's longevity will depend on maintaining player interest.
A recent datamine seemingly leaks some of the potential new content coming to crossover fighting game MultiVersus. MultiVersus initially launched in beta form and was a big success out of the gate. Unfortunately, the game was ultimately unable to maintain interest for the long-term. The plug was pulled on the MultiVersus beta, and the game disappeared for a great amount of time.
Eventually, MultiVersus came back with a 1.0 version. MultiVersus 1.0 was criticized for various changes that were made to the game since its beta tests, but that hasn't stopped the developers from releasing new updates and adding fresh content to the game. It seems that even more MultiVersus content is on the horizon, if a recent leak is any indication.
MultiVersus Reveals Season 2 Battle Pass
With MultiVersus Season 2 just around the corner, devs reveal what rewards will be available for players in the upcoming battle pass.
Since-deleted tweets of datamined content (as reported by Engadget) from MultiVersus show stages based on Barbie, Harry Potter, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Mad Max. Additionally, it seems Marceline of Adventure Time fame will be joining the roster at some point as well. Notably, Samurai Jack was recently added to the game, and one Powerpuff Girls stage already exists. The Harry Potter stage was reportedly set in a Quidditch arena, but otherwise there isn't much information to go on now that the tweets have been deleted. It's also worth keeping in mind that just because this content was found, it doesn't mean it will ever actually be finished or added to the game.
MultiVersus Datamine Leak
- Barbie stage
- Harry Potter stage
- Mad Max stage
- Marceline from Adventure Time
It wouldn't be surprising at all to see this content added to MultiVersus eventually, though that may depend on the game's longevity. MultiVersus has a little over 4,000 players on Steam online right now, which is not bad but a far cry from its peak of over 150,000. It's possible new characters like Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice could keep the game alive, but it's also possible that users will lose interest due to the controversial changes that were made between the beta and the 1.0 release.
Assuming MultiVersus hangs on, it seems likely that content based on these major franchises could eventually make its way to the game. Beyond what was mentioned in the recent datamine leak, other MultiVersus content has been teased in a more official capacity. For example, the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz has been teased, as has DC Comics hero Aquaman. Official announcements for those characters have yet to be made. Besides new characters, MultiVersus fans can also look forward to new stages, as evidenced by the datamine leak, not to mention new game modes and other content, like the Ranked mode that was added alongside Samurai Jack.
