Tom & Jerry has been one of the most memorable characters for anyone growing up glued to their TV sets. Their quirky chases and over-the-top action sequences made them stand out, which kids dare not try at home.
Cut to modern times, and when the video game industry has evolved into a medium of more lavish entertainment, the iconic cat and mouse duo are back in the limelight, sharing screen space with some of the other iconic characters in the WB roster. MultiVersus was something the gaming world didn't deserve but probably what it needed, and when the trailer dropped featuring Tom and Jerry, things were no longer normal.
Basic Attacks
Tom & Jerry are categorized under the Mage class in the game. Mage class characters deal with long-range projectile damages rather than short-range quick combats. The game sticks to the duo's iconic chase and action moves and somehow manages to squeeze them down into the game. Something that might bring a smile to the player's face on first look.
| Move Type | Move Name | Description |
| Neutral Ground | Volley | This move is a classic swing swat of the tennis racket from Tom. Even though Tom still misses Jerry with his swings, the commotion is enough to deal significant damage to the opponent near the duo. It is a charge-up move. The more the charge, the more the damage. |
| Neutral Air | Same as ‘Neutral Ground’ | |
| Side Ground | Mallet Time | A four hit combo where Tom tries to whack Jerry with a large mallet, but hits his opponent instead. |
| Side Air | Scratch Cat | A simple two swipe combo in mid-air that deals with a reasonable amount of damage to the opponents. |
| Up Ground | Paddle-Paddle-Paddle | Another classic move from the cartoons. It starts with an upward swing which later transitions into tom racket, paddling Jerry to-and-fro while dealing damage to opponents caught in between. Although this looks fun and faithful to the characters, even the fully charged attempt of the move does not do much unless the opponent caught in the crossfire stays put. |
| Up Air | Trash Band | One more homage to the old cartoons. The move has Tom clapping two garbage can lids together. The damage dealt ranges from mid to heavy based on the point of contact with the opponent. The closer the lids are upon contact, the more damage dealt with. |
| Down Ground | Feline Pounce | Fans of the cartoon would know this move inside out. Tom pounces to catch Jerry with his hands, and Jerry times his jumps to utmost perfection before running into this home in the wall. This is a charge-up move, where the amount of charge would prolong the pounce distance and the damage to the opponents. A fully charged move also breaks the opponent's armor. |
| Down Air | Cast-Iron Crusher | A basic one-beat swing down of a cast iron cooking pan. |
Special Attacks
| Move Type | Move Name | Description |
| Neutral Ground Special | Slingshot Sharpshooter | Specials are probably the only time when players can separate Jerry from Tom. Tom fires Jerry with a slingshot, and upon contact, Jerry lands on the ground and stays there. Now, the player can use Tom’s tennis ball ammo - which would allow for a single serve and volley back between the two. This would damage the opponents stuck between while trying to jump up. The player could also use up Jerry’s quirky ammo. This would allow the player to use Tom’s mallet strike at one far end while Jerry pops out a champagne bottle, with the cork hitting an opponent near Jerry. However, One should be aware to not shoot Jerry outside the Arena, as players would need to wait for a cooling period until Jerry is available again. Until then, the player would need to survive without much to do. |
| Neutral Air Special | Same as ‘Neutral Ground Special’ | |
| Side Ground Special | Goin’ Fishing | This charge-up special is more of a "You better get it right" kind of a move. Tom hooks Jerry to a fishing pole and swings towards the side. It acts more like an Indiana Jones whip than a fishing pole, so players would need to make sure the charge is set right so that Jerry doesn't overtravel the opponent or fall short of the same. A miss either would deal no damage whatsoever. |
| Side Air Special | Same as “Side Ground Special’ | |
| Up Ground Special | Rocket Mouse | Tom ties Jerry onto a rocket (The firecracker type) and launches it upwards. The Rocket can be controlled and guided by the player towards the target as needed. Again, upon contact, Jerry would stay put, and the Tennis Ball - Champagne Cock combo begins to take shape. If not, players can also continue to use the special, and Tom would kick a rocket at Jerry. Any opponent nearby Jerry at the time of impact would deal significant damage. |
| Up Air Special | Same as “Up Ground Special” but kicks Jerry, instead of Slingshotting him. | |
| Down Ground Special | Snap Trap | Snap Trap, as the name suggests, is a trap. Tom would set up a mousetrap that acts like a mine. Any opponent or foe stepping on it would deal significant damage. |
| Down Air Special | Look Out Below! | Tom, while in midair, drops a dynamite stick to the ground below. Any opponent within the range would deal a significant level of damage. Before the special cools down, Tom would have one more stick of dynamite in his ammo. Players can jump up and use the dynamite and swack it with a tennis racket. This causes relatively more damage to the opponent, but is very target specific. |
