In just a few weeks, Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney Plus and Marvel Studios has upped its promotional game once again. A new trailer has just been released that offers a look at a lot of never before seen footage from the much-awaited series, and showcases Kamala Khan's transformation from a teenager to a superhero.
The one-minute Ms. Marvel trailer was shared by the studio on its social media channels, and the video titled “Destiny” puts Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan front and center. From her obsession with Captain Marvel to a closer look at her powers, the trailer is the perfect snippet of what’s in store for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the latest hero makes her debut. Within 60 seconds, fans will get a good idea of what makes Ms. Marvel unique.
The Ms. Marvel trailer begins with Vellani's Khan having a conversation with the mosque’s priest about how Captain Marvel is able to convince everyone “how she’s good.” His response is like a guiding light for the upcoming hero. “Good is not a thing you are Kamala… it is a thing you do,” the priest is heard saying. It is quite similar to Spider-Man's iconic moment where Uncle Ben tells Peter Parker that “with great power comes great responsibility.” Those were words to live by for the hero, and were repeated once again two decades later by Aunt May in Spider-Man: No Way Home, confirming that it is the motto of the hero’s life, despite being a different variant.
The trailer then goes on to show Khan finding her grandmother’s bracelet, which happens to become a weapon as soon as she puts it on. Her ability to manipulate power is put on show in the latest Ms. Marvel trailer, and she refers to it as “an idea come to life.” The rest of the video is packed with action shots of her moving items using her powers, walking through thin air, and stopping a vehicle from crashing into a sidewalk full of pedestrians.
Kamala Khan's powers in Ms. Marvel have been a topic of discussion in the past, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige offered an explanation as to why they aren’t comic book accurate. Turns out that Khan's introduction in the comics and her first appearance in the MCU do not match on the sacred timeline. To keep up with Phase 4 of the MCU and its current scenario, Khan's powers had to be modified.
Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney Plus on June 8, 2022.
