  • MrBeast offers to buy TikTok officially.
  • TikTok's future remains uncertain.
  • Trump proposed ownership split, but unclear if TikTok will accept offers.

MrBeast has announced that he's officially making an offer to purchase TikTok. The revelation comes in the wake of some recent changes regarding the social media platform, putting TikTok's future in question.

MrBeast initially expressed interest in buying TikTok in January, which seems to have been taken seriously, as he says multiple billionaires reached out to discuss the possibility. He's remained fairly tight-lipped since, but had said that he was looking into pulling it off.

MrBeast has now uploaded a video from his jet, announcing that he's officially flying out to make an offer on TikTok. Exactly what MrBeast is offering isn't clear, as he hasn't made the offer public. In lieu of an exact figure, he referred to the offer as "crazy" and said that he could end up becoming the new CEO. Presumably, once the offer is either accepted or rejected, what it entailed will come to light. In any case, it's the latest in the messy situation that it has gone through since TikTok started undergoing scrutiny in the first Trump presidency term.

TikTok's Future Seems Brighter, But Still Unclear

TikTok is in sort of limbo right now, as the outgoing President Biden had signed a bill in April 2024 requiring the parent company ByteDance to sell its shares in the company or get banned in the US. As this hadn't transpired in the nine months allotted, TikTok went dark on January 19, with a message stating that it hoped to return after Trump was sworn in. The app has since returned to normal service in the US, as Trump has announced an executive order to extend the time for a solution to be found. However, the app has not yet returned to Google Play or the iPhone App Store.

While Trump says that he's thinking about 50% of the ownership being given to the US while MrBeast attempts to buy the app, it remains to be seen if the company will even consider a sale. Although TikTok initially seemed warm to the idea of being bought out to ensure TikTok could continue operating in the US, it's since changed its tune, and recent reports have made it seem as though the company is no longer willing to sell the app. However, for the opportunity to continue operating in the US, and with a big enough offer from either MrBeast or the federal government, that stance could change. For the moment, TikTok users will have to wait and see if MrBeast or governmental negotiations are successful, but the future seems more hopeful for TikTok than it has in recent months.
