Prominent YouTuber MrBeast has recently asked his fans to fix the stands of his own brand of chocolate bars Feastables in Walmart stores. The YouTube star also requested his followers to push aside the products of competitors, which provoked the anger of many critics online. Also known as Jimmy Donaldson, MrBeast has achieved unparalleled popularity as a video content creator. By promoting several challenges involving friends, and subscribers, and offering large monetary rewards, he rose to fame pretty quickly after 2017. Last year, he broke records on YouTube by growing so much that he surpassed the number of subscribers of PewDiePie, becoming the new largest YouTuber ever. Due to his increasing popularity, MrBeast also entered a few new markets, such as selling chocolate bars, which are distributed in Walmart stores all over the United States. Now, MrBeast has found himself in the middle of a controversy by asking some of his followers to clean up displays of his chocolate bars when they find them in Walmart. He expected some of his fans to do that for free while he was “building a team” to do it routinely. According to Dexerto, he also tweeted that he “would not complain” if people moved Hershey’s chocolate bars aside to display Feastables, too in a now-deleted tweet. This last part of his statements provoked the ire of many people online, as they argued that MrBeast was not only asking for free labor but also defending unethical practices by telling people to push the products of competitors aside.
While MrBeast is constantly engaging with his followers, most of the interactions are generally harmless. Recently, for instance, he asked his fans if he should run for U.S. President, receiving over 70% of votes saying "Yes" in the team. It was, unlike this current development, a mostly harmless joke.
However, this is not the first time that MrBeast has found himself at the center of a controversy, which is to be expected when one has such a large following. A few days ago, Logan Paul and Lazarbeam accused him of poaching their employees. In this case of influencer drama, the two claimed that he was hiring editors from them, which made them lose significant talent to the competition.
Controversies aside, MrBeast’s rise in popularity filled him with so much money that he’s starting to branch out to other areas, and chocolates may be just the start. As a long-time esports fan, he also revealed plans to buy a League of Legends team, which will use his brand. At the moment, however, it’s still not clear which team he intends to buy or when that may happen.
