A Reddit poll asking fans which feature they most want to see in future Pokemon titles has revealed a heavy preference for one particular aspect of the series. The poll, which allowed users to pick from one of six options, revealed that an overwhelming majority of fans want to be able to visit multiple regions within a single Pokemon title.
With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet releasing in less than two weeks, fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating the new Pokemon, locations, and features the latest title in the series will bring. Though the first Pokemon game released as far back as 1996, fans have become accustomed to each new installment of the mainline games introducing them to a new region filled with exciting new Pokemon and enticing stories, with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet being the franchise's ninth generation.
A poll posted by Reddit user billthestamps asked players to pick their favorite out of six key features that could be added to the series in the future. Beating out the return of the battle frontier, the return of the Pokemon world tournament, co-op modes, improved secret bases, and the ability to dress up Pokemon, the ability to visit all regions within a single game was the most requested feature by a landslide, boasting over 50% of total votes cast.
The most recent installments into the mainline series of Pokemon games that allowed players to visit multiple regions were Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, where the player begins their journey in Johto and concludes it after defeating Red in Kanto. These two titles, from a time heralded by many to be Pokemon's golden age, remain some of the best-selling Pokemon titles ever, with a large amount of this being due the sheer amount of contained the games contained through having two regions in addition to a Pokewalker device.
With Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver being so positively received due to containing two regions, it is natural for fans to want a game which features even more content in the form of even more iconic locations to explore. However, the amount of time and effort this would require may be too much for the franchise, which typically releases a new mainline game annually. While a game featuring five regions would be a massive hit worldwide, it would also likely take longerto develop, something which the team behind Pokemon would likely not want to commit to, given their penchant for releasing titles annually whenever possible.
