Every Dead Rising Game, Ranked
The Dead Rising franchise has had a rather long hiatus recently, but it has created some of the best zombie games around.
With this in mind, this list is going to take a look at the most insane, ridiculous, and nonsensical weapons that can be used to take apart zombies in the weirdest ways possible. This list won't include vehicles in this list - there is one inclusion that is technically a vehicle of sorts, but it can also be used in other ways, so it gets a pass.
10 Novelty Masks
Dead Rising
- Four masks available: Ghoul, Horse, Bar and Servbot
- Can be used to blind and incapacitate zombies and also thrown at them to do a small amount of damage
Novelty masks were a fun way to mess with zombies in the first Dead Rising game, but also one of the sillier weapons. The masks only do a bit of damage if they are thrown at a zombie, but the main way to use them is to put them on a zombie's head so they can’t see and can no longer attack. Zombies will stumble around aimlessly and sometimes trip over while wearing these masks, making for a funny and ridiculous way to deal with the undead.
9 Jurassic Barf
Dead Rising 4
- Made by combining a chemical weapon with a T-Rex mask
- Blueprint found in The Peaks Motel in North Peak
There are a lot of combination weapons in the Dead Rising series that make use of novelty masks, such as the Fountain Lizard and the Flaming Helmet. However, Jurassic Barf takes the spot on this list, mostly for the pun that comes along with it, but also for the funny animation that Frank has when he uses it.
The Jurassic Barf weapon is a T-Rex mask that spews acid on zombies in the vicinity, but Frank will also pull out some dinosaur-style moves with an animation when he uses his more powerful attack. The acid-spewing is also a nice reference to the spitting dinosaurs from the first Jurassic Park movie.
8 Pegasus
Dead Rising: Off The Record
- Made by combining Rocket Fireworks with a Stick Pony
- The combo card is unlocked when reaching level 22
Next is a weapon that is only available in the non-canon Dead Rising: Off the Record game, which reimagines Dead Rising 2 from the perspective of the first game's protagonist Frank West. The Pegasus weapon is a stick pony toy with a bunch of fireworks tied to the front, which can make for a spectacular light show when used on zombies.
Players can stab zombies with the Pegasus to do some damage, but the more entertaining attack comes when the Pegasus is used to impale zombies and send them flying into the air. Once airborne, the zombies will explode into a sparkly rain of blood and guts. What’s not to like?
7 Super Slicer
Dead Rising 2
- Made by combining a Servbot Mask with a Lawn Mower
- The combo card is unlocked when reaching level 32 or 33
This wearable helmet is another ridiculous weapon choice found in Dead Rising 2 that allows players to get stuck into some zombie-slicing and dicing. The weapon is a basic one, combining a novelty Servbot mask with the blades from a lawnmower. Players can then put the mask on and headbutt zombies to cut them into little pieces.
Players can also charge when wearing the Super Slicer, allowing them to attack multiple zombies and turn them into a fine paste. The Servbot mask continues to smile through the entire ordeal, which only adds to the insanity and hilarity of this weapon.
6 Suckmaster 3000
Dead Rising 4
- Made by combining a mechanical weapon with a Vacuum
- Can be purchased at the weapons vendor in the Mall Emergency Shelter
Next is a weapon that isn’t quite as silly as some of the others in terms of what it looks like, but the result is a pretty ridiculous one, earning it a spot on this list.
The Suckmaster 3000 creates a mini black hole of sorts and when thrown into a crowd of zombies, it will start to suck them together and then crush them into nothingness. The weapon can crush hundreds of zombies into dust at once, so not only is this a ridiculous weapon that can cause a chuckle or two as the zombies are sucked into a vortex, but it’s also one of the best weapons in the entire franchise.
5 Blitzkrieg
Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising: Off the Record
- Made by combining an Electric Chair and a Merc Assault Rifle
- The combo card is unlocked when reaching level 49 or 50
The Blitzkrieg is quite a difficult weapon to obtain in Dead Rising 2, as the Merc Assault Rifle needed to create it doesn’t become obtainable until later in the game. Despite this difficulty, the Blitzkrieg is worth it, even though it is pretty silly.
The Blitzkrieg is an electric wheelchair modified to include heavy firepower, with two rifles mounted to the wheelchair arms. Players can sit in the chair and wheel themselves around while shooting up zombies, so this is technically a vehicle, but it’s an incredibly slow one. Despite its poor mobility, the Blitzkrieg is super strong and can take down a lot of zombies, but players will also look ridiculous while doing so (in the best possible way).
4 Super Massager
Dead Rising: Off the Record and Dead Rising 3
- Made by combining a Leaf Blower with a Massager
- Off the Record: Combo card unlocked by examining the Massage-O-Tron 3000 movie poster in the South Plaza.
- Dead Rising 3: Blueprint found in Speedy’s G Spot in South Almuda
The massager is a ridiculous weapon in itself in the Dead Rising series, but the Super Massager takes it one step further by allowing players to not only smack zombies in the face with a massager but also to launch said massagers at them.
The Super Massager launches massagers at zombies, which will lodge inside of them, though not in the way that it sounds. While this might seem like a novelty weapon, it’s also surprisingly powerful, doing a good deal of damage and allowing players to take out plenty of zombies in a rather scandalous and entirely ridiculous way.
3 Magic Wand
Dead Rising 4
- Made by combining Chemicals with a Wand
- Can be purchased at the weapons vendor in the Mall Emergency Shelter
For players looking to bring a little Christmas magic to the undead, the Magic Wand is the perfect choice of a ridiculous weapon. The Magic Wand allows players to turn zombies into different Christmas-themed items, such as Christmas presents and candy canes.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Preview: 24 Hours in Willamette Parkview Mall Has Never Felt Better
The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster breathes new life into Capcom's undead hack n' slash classic, updating it in all the right ways.
The fourth game veered from the path of the series drastically, making it one of the least popular games in the franchise, but there is no doubt that it has some of the most ridiculous weapons that are particularly fun to use, especially the Magic Wand.
2 Party Gloves
Dead Rising 3
- Made by combining a Toy Robot with Boxing Gloves
- Blueprints found in the Sunset Hills gazebo
Next up is a melee weapon that isn’t particularly powerful, but can create plenty of laughs thanks to their novelty nature. Despite being made by combining boxing gloves with a toy robot, the actual gloves have rubber duckies attached to each knuckle. Because of the ducks, each punch that Nick throws while wearing the gloves leads to a squeaky sound. Nick delivers very quick punches when wearing the Party Gloves, so there are plenty of silly squeaks to be had when players start launching punches at zombies.
Dead Rising 3’s Party Gloves are a quick but very weak weapon that can’t be used for anything more than novelty purposes, but the silliness of the gloves makes them one of the most ridiculous.
1 All Stuffed/Robot Bears
All Dead Rising Games except Dead Rising 4
- Regular teddy bears and combo weapons
- Includes the Freedom Bear (DR2 and 3), Volatile Bear (DR3), Bomb Toy (DR3) and Pushy Bear (DR3)
Last but not least are the infamous teddy bear weapons found in all the Dead Rising games (bar Dead Rising 4). These bears are silly and super fun to use, but as the games progressed, players had the chance to turn these cute and cuddly toys into zombie-killing machines.
In the first Dead Rising, the Stuffed Bear could be thrown at zombies for novelty purposes, though they inflicted a little bit of damage. From Dead Rising 2 onward, the bears - which could move and become Robot Bears - could be combined with other items to create surprisingly strong weapons. The most common of these is the Freedom Bear, which is a fan-favorite weapon. When combining a Robot Bear with an LMG, the badass, bandana-wearing, cigar-smoking Freedom Bear is born. This weapon is a turret of sorts that can be placed in an area and will shoot at zombies when they enter the line of fire.
Dead Rising 3 expanded on the teddy bear antics even more so, with new weapon combos available, such as the Bomb Toy. The Bomb Toy is made when combining a Gasoline Canister with a Robot Bear, creating an explosive device that can clear out an area of zombies. Super-weapon combos using the Freedom Bear base also became available in Dead Rising 3, with weapons such as the Pushy Bear- a Freedom Bear that can be wheeled around- and the Boom Bear, which allows Freedom Bear to wield two Grenade Launcher instead of LMGs.
The development of the teddy bear weapons throughout the series along with the insane fun that can be had with them make the Stuffed Bears and Robot Bears the best ridiculous weapons found in the Dead Rising series.
