- Players were excited about the ability to fully customize their characters' appearances, even with the game's monetization format.
- The new Hell's Champion set in Diablo 4 allowed a player to create an outfit resembling Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat, but it required purchasing premium cosmetics.
Diablo 4 offers a wide selection of cosmetic outfits for all five of its classes, and one player mixed-and-matched a few pieces to painstakingly recreate Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat. Though Diablo 4 broke a fair few Blizzard records when it launched in June 2023, the game's popularity experienced a steep decline following the release of Season of the Malignant. Diablo 4's endgame was criticized for being stale, as many players were either overwhelmed by the leveling grind, or burned out by the tedium of running Nightmare Dungeons over and over again. However, there was one aspect that players almost unanimously praised: Diablo 4's art direction, and by extension, the character customization system.
Not only is Diablo 4's character customization a major leap for the Diablo franchise, but the ability to fully customize the appearance of a class significantly contributed to the excitement that players had about the latest Blizzard title. While some in the community were already wary about the game's monetization format, many fans were content with the compromise so long as the non-premium armor sets in Diablo 4 were equally impressive. With Diablo 4 halfway through Season of Blood, the in-game shop has greatly expanded its collection, and some of these new additions have allowed players to create completely new looks.
Diablo 4 Players Will Be Able to Earn Increased XP and Gold for a Limited Time
During Thanksgiving week, Diablo 4 players can earn significantly more experience and gold thanks to the return of a fan-favorite event.
Broken_Man23 used the new Hell's Champion set for Barbarians in Diablo 4 to complete an outfit that strongly resembles Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat. Much like the Kratos build made by another Diablo 4 Barbarian, this Shao Kahn outfit submitted by Broken_Man23 relies on the stout, muscular physique of the masculine model, coupled with the loincloth warrior archetype, to achieve the look.
While the chest piece, gloves, and boots are interchangeable, there are two main premium cosmetics that make this set work:
- Hell's Champion (helmet), 2800 Platinum.
- Death Toll (pants), 2400 Platinum.
With a total value of 5200 Platinum, Diablo 4 players would have to purchase the 5700 Platinum pack for $49.99 to attempt a similar outfit. Though the community has often complained about the exorbitant prices of Diablo 4's cosmetics, it's clear that Blizzard greatly benefits from the monetization model.
Ultimately, the next season will no doubt introduce more premium cosmetics to the store, which will in turn enable Diablo 4 players to recreate even more characters from other franchises. In terms of new non-premium armor sets, the announcement of Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred revealed that the new Torajan Jungles region was coming to the game, and much like Reaper of Souls brought the popular Rakkisguard set to Diablo 3, Vessel of Hatred will likely have its fair share of Zakarum inspired looks for players to fiddle around with.
