On August 1, Atari and Digital Eclipse confirmed that Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection would also include the fan-favorite Mortal Kombat Trilogy as part of the compilation. Given that it has multiple variations with exclusive characters each, it is unclear which versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy will be included in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.
Originally released in October 1996 on the PlayStation, Mortal Kombat Trilogy is the second revision of Mortal Kombat 3, following 1995's Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Mortal Kombat Trilogy features the gameplay systems of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, along with stages and characters from the first two Mortal Kombat titles. Mortal Kombat Trilogy also introduced the "Brutality" finisher mechanic, along with the Aggressor bar system that grants players faster movements and increased damage temporarily. Mortal Kombat Trilogy was later ported to platforms like the Sega Saturn, the Nintendo 64, and Windows PCs.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will also include Mortal Kombat Trilogy as part of the growing compilation. Mortal Kombat Trilogy joins titles like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Advance, and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance on the roster, with more titles still to be revealed. However, Switch 2 copies of each Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection edition will carry a $10 markup compared to the other console ports. By the same token, the Switch 2 version of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will not be on a Game-Key Card, according to the packaging details from Atari. Each version will also have collectible slipcase covers for players to pick from as a pre-order bonus from Atari's storefront, based on the characters Scorpion, Smoke, Reptile, and Sub-Zero. Pre-orders are expected to ship out on December 12 and will be taken throughout August.
Though rumors about the release date of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection point to a late September launch, the developers have kept the compilation to a 2025 release window. With the 2025 Evo fighting game tournament underway through August 3, the official release date of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is expected to be confirmed during the weekend's action.
