While details about Mortal Kombat 11 are still slim, the game's reveal trailer did confirm that a Switch version of the title would be made available alongside releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Indeed the promise of a portable Mortal Kombat experience is likely to have many fans excited, however several recently updated retail listings suggest that the Switch version may be delayed.
According to Amazon France, Amazon UK, and the Warner Bros. UK online store, the release date for Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch is now May 10. All previous announcements have indicated that the game would be available beginning April 23, and while these retailers still have the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions scheduled to release on that date, the newly reported Switch launch certainly appears to deviate from the confirmed schedule.
Notably, Amazon in the US still has the Switch release scheduled to coincide with all other versions, meaning that the delay may be exclusive to Europe. Alternatively, Amazon US may have not yet updated their Switch listing, or it may be discovered that the Euro-based sites simply had their wires crossed and there will be no delay.
That said, it is not unheard of for Switch versions of games to be delayed past their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One counterparts, lending some credibility to the idea that the release of Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch may have been slightly pushed. Last year, for example, the Switch release of Dark Souls Remastered saw a significant delay, releasing five months later than initially planned.
However, until there is confirmation from NetherRealm Studios, Amazon France, Amazon UK, and Warner Bros. UK's indications should be considered speculative. Fortunately for those fans that want this to be officially clarified sooner rather than later, this week's upcoming reveal event may be an opportunity for the company to do so.
If ultimately the release of Mortal Kombat 11 for Switch does fall victim to a delay, it does not appear that it will be a sizable one. Hopefully, this won't be too big a blow to players that simply cannot wait to perform fatalities on the go, and then some character reveals at Thursday's event may be enough to put it out of their minds completely.
Mortal Kombat 11 is currently scheduled to launch on April 23, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
