Honest Game Trailers turned its attention onto Mortal Kombat 11 recently, delivering a critique of Mortal Kombat in order to point out some of its comically ridiculous themes and aesthetics. One such critique is on the photo-realism that Next-Gen gaming brings to the game's bone crushing attacks and fatalities.
This isn't the first time that Honest Game Trailers has taken a hit at the Mortal Kombat series on the Fandom Games YouTube channel. However, with Mortal Kombat 11's popularity rising in the wake of new DLC characters dropping in 2020, the long running YouTube series has decided to take a crack at giving an "honest" take on the latest game in the long running series.
One observation of the game gets oddly real as the voice over looks at the HD carnage happening on the screen and begins to realize that he is slowly becoming desensitized to human suffering. This is obviously a joke on how the game presents the fairly horrifying display of blood and guts in a campy, funny manner meant to insight players to giggle at the "Next-Gen giblets" splashing across the screen. Considering how brutal some of Moral Kombat 11's Fatalities and Fatal Blows can get, the observation is fairly poignant for the way the game presents what a horror title might use to elicit disgust or fear.
The video doesn't necessarily hang on the hyper violence for the entire five minutes that it looks into the primary aspects of Mortal Kombat 11. After moving on from the game's carnage, the voice-over focuses on the extremely convoluted story in Mortal Kombat 11's campaign, complete with the time travel and universe swapping that brings old characters from the past and alternate dimensions. While the story is somewhat overly complicated, it has been a great way to bring new DLC characters like Joker and the T-800 to the game.
Players have clearly connected strongly with the latest in the Mortal Kombat series and all that it has brought into the hyper-violent franchise. As a result of the massive community that has formed around the series, there are currently two movies rebooting the Mortal Kombat movie franchise for the next generation of movie goers. It's yet to be said how well these new movies will do, but with how many players and viewers tune in just to watch gameplay of Mortal Kombat 11 at tournaments and on Twitch, there is clearly an audience looking to see the game come to the big screen.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
