Earlier today, WB Games and NetherRealm Studios debuted the gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 11's Joker DLC character. It's the first, and perhaps only, DC character to be introduced to Mortal Kombat 11. As a surprise at the end of the trailer, though, NetherRealm revealed plans to add a little more DC to Mortal Kombat 11 than fans were expecting. Mortal Kombat 11 will be receiving a DC Elseworlds Skin Pack with three DC character skins, as well as a separate individual DLC character skin for four total.
Three skins will come as part of the DC Elseworlds Skin Pack, each based on a different character from the DC Comics universe. The first, named "Darkest Knight," is a relatively new villain for DC named the The Batman Who Laughs. This terrifying villain crossed the multiverse to battle the Batman we all know and now they'll be infecting Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 11. The other two skins will be "Killer Kroc" for Baraka and "Katwoman of Outworld" for Kitana.
A fourth, separate skin will also be made available, though it isn't part of the DC Elseworlds Skin Pack. NetherRealm and DC must think this one's something special. The skin is for Geras and it's based on perhaps DC's most threatening villain, Darkseid. The Darkseid skin is named "Time Lord of Apokalips." Darkseid is one of the most powerful villains in DC Comics and for Geras players is certain to become a favorite skin.
Those hoping for other DC characters to be introduced in Mortal Kombat 11 may be out of luck. It's already quite surprising that DC allowed these skins to be added to the game in the first place, given how extremely violent Mortal Kombat 11 is. There's also the fact that NetherRealm's other fighting game franchise, Injustice, depends on the excitement of playing DC heroes and villains to sell. Adding more characters to Mortal Kombat 11 kind of steals Injustice's thunder, but if the DLC sells really well, then anything's possible.
The DC Elseworlds Skin Pack and the Time Lord of Apokalips Geras skin will be released alongside Joker on January 28. This is the "Early Access" release date, however, which is solely available to Kombat Pack owners. They'll still have to purchase the skins, but they'll at least have early access to them. Those without the Kombat Pack will have to wait an additional week before being able to buy the new skins or Joker.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
