Mortal Kombat 1 teases the first look at the next Fatality in its Fatality Seasonal Bundle, which is going to be winter-themed to correspond to the Christmas holiday season. The fighting game was released earlier this September, rebooting the franchise again with a brand-new story. Alongside that, the game has been implementing a large focus on microtransactions, which has become a rather prevalent and controversial topic when discussing Mortal Kombat 1. Some of these microtransactions are for special limited-time Fatalities, based on various holiday seasons, which are purchasable using the in-game premium currency.

The Seasonal Fatalities Pack comes with three fatality finishing moves, based on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Mortal Kombat 1's Halloween Fatality DLC was released for $10, with many fans soured by its price. In response, those who already purchased the Halloween fatality would be getting both the Thanksgiving and Winter fatalities for free, though it is still a hot-button topic. Regardless, NetherRealm released the Thanksgiving fatality on November 17, which features the hapless victim being force-fed Thanksgiving dinner and then vomiting it out. The next fatality has been teased for December thanks to an in-game promotion.

In a tweet by thethiny, they show off a new promotional image of the Fatality Seasonal Bundle, since Mortal Kombat 1's Thanksgiving Fatality was added to the game's store on November 17. It also gives the first look at the Winter Fatality, which has an unmasked Reptile holding a candy cane, with a moonlit snowy backdrop behind him. Based on past fatalities, it's likely the character executing the fatality will be using the candy cane to bludgeon their opponent or cut them using the hook end of the object.

An official date for the addition of this Fatality has not been listed yet. Based on the release schedule of the past fatalities added to Mortal Kombat 1, thethiny posits that since the Thanksgiving fatality was added on November 17, a week before the content rotates on November 24, it's possible that it will be added on December 15, a week before the content rotates on December 22, a few days before Christmas.

Despite the novelty of these seasonal fatalities, many are still sore about the implementation of these fatalities as microtransactions. The price tag of Mortal Kombat 1's Halloween Fatality was enough to put many people off the first time. Even when NetherRealm made all three moves available in one pack for $10, many were still upset at these Fatalities being locked behind a microtransaction, with many believing none of the fatalities were worth $10 on top of the $70 to play the game. Despite the backlash, the winter-themed Fatality might be able to make it worth the price if it's festive enough.
