Summary

  • A leak suggests future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC may include "Kombat Kids" Cassie Cage and Kung Jin, expanding the roster.
  • Recent announcements have teased new fighters like Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyrax, adding to the excitement.

Some possible future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters may have been leaked, including “Kombat Kids” Cassie Cage and Kung Jin. NetherRealm’s latest fighting game has been continuing the tradition of adding new characters after launch, with past MK fighters Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda Takahashi all joining the Mortal Kombat 1 roster at different points over the past year or so. Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 1 also included guest combatants Omni-Man from Invincible, Peacemaker from DC Comics, and Homelander of The Boys fame.

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con event, NetherRealm announced the next wave of Mortal Kombat 1 DLC guest fighters, with the undead ninja Noob Saibot and gender-flipped versions of classic cyborg warriors Sektor and Cyrax being added to the game as part of the upcoming Khaos Reigns story expansion. The new Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 2 will also include three more guest characters: the masked Ghostface from the Scream franchise, the liquid metal T-1000 that first appeared in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Conan the Barbarian.

Now a new leak is giving Mortal Kombat 1 fans a possible look at yet another round of DLC characters that could be added after the recently announced Kombat Pack 2. YouTube channel FutureBoyWho posted a video highlighting how three of the “Kombat Kids” introduced in Mortal Kombat 10 were briefly shown near the end of Mortal Kombat 1’s story campaign. More specifically, character models of Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, and Jackie Briggs were made for this cameo, and newly mined files of Cassie and Kung have been redesigned to be of a higher resolution in comparison to what was shown in the cutscene.

Possible Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Characters

  • Cassie Cage
  • Kung Jin

As noted before, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, and Jackie Briggs all made their debuts in 2015’s Mortal Kombat 10 as the so-called "Kombat Kids," younger relatives of past Mortal Kombat fighters who have joined in the mission to protect EarthRealm from the forces that threaten it. Takeda Takahashi was also a part of this group, and some fans have speculated that his inclusion among Mortal Kombat 1’s previous DLC characters is a sign that the rest could be added in due time.

This recent leak is by no means a confirmation that the other “Kombat Kids” are coming to Mortal Kombat 1 in future DLC, but if they are, it opens up a new line of questions regarding how they would fit into the rebooted MK 1 timeline. When Takeda was introduced, he was changed from Kenshi Takahashi’s son to his cousin, so it stands to reason that Cassie Cage and Kung Jin would have similar alterations to their backstories should they indeed become playable in a future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC expansion.
